Earlier this month Trekkies were treated to a minute-long teaser trailer for the eagerly awaited Into Darkness movie.
But now fans of the hit Star Trek franchise have another minute of footage to relish with the release of an extended trailer.
The latest one is almost two-minutes long, with fast-paced running scenes and fiery explosions, all set to an emotive musical score that descends into a foreboding drone.

Shatner was 38 and I’ve always carried a torch for him since I was about 10, sigh.
“I mean, in the future, will 25 year olds really rise up that fast in the chain of command?”
No, just Kirk, because, well, he’s Kirk. I’m not going to let a little detail like that bother me too much, because they did a pretty impressive job with the reboot overall.
Really, I can’t think of another actor besides Pine who could play Kirk and pull it off as well. He managed to capture the essence of the role without it coming off as a cheesy Shatner impersonation, which I think is pretty impressive. So, I’ll forgive them for making Kirk younger, instead of picking an older actor who wouldn’t give as good of a performance.
WOW! Thanks for the reminder! Worth pondering.

He was born in ‘31 and the series started in ‘66, so that means he was about 35. I also carried a bit of a torch ...! I got to meet him in 2006. He was in great shape (not fat) and seemed like a very comfortable guy who liked people a lot but who didn’t give a particular damn whether or not they liked him. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked him: you always know where you stand with people like that.
I would hope by the 23rd century that wrinkles have been ironed out, so to speak.
A young commander wouldn’t hit the post button multiple times.
he was late thirties in ‘69.
You’re right, but he was 38 or so when I was 12.... He’s actually only two years younger than my father. But he was dreamy then and his eyes twinkled.
And I still fall for that strong man-mischievous boy act. Save the world and make the girls giggle. It’s Tom Sawyer all grown up. Yummy.

I took my son to see The Hobbitt in IMAX 3D on Saturday, and they played a special IMAX 3D teaser of Into Darkness. It was almost 10 minutes long. Looks great.
I did the same thing, except on Friday night. After about 3 minutes of the extended scene, my friend’s girlfriend turned to me and asked if this part of the movie was in the book.
I was like, “No, Captain Kirk was not in the Hobbit!”
I have to admit for a minute I thought I went into the wrong theater or something. I didn’t know it was coming, but it was cool.
I saw the Hobbit, and the extended trailer, as well, I got dizzy during the goblin cave. The 3D wasn’t well done during this scene.
LOL! Love it! Perfectly stated!
Thank YOU !
The only episode I can recall is the episode where there are two Kirks caused by the transporter accident.
It looks like they copied the scene from Skyfall with the caskets, I hope Kirk doesn’t have mommy or daddy issues.
Well, you've probably solved it then. I was 16 in '69, so Shatner's 34 looked grizzled and time-worn to me. Guess it's a matter of perspective. Everyone under 50 looks like a kid to me now.
