Wolf attacks trapper on snowmachine near Tok ( Alaska )

FAIRBANKS — A wolf attacked a Tok trapper on his snowmachine last week about 30 miles off the Taylor Highway, biting through the man’s parka and three layers of clothing to put a 3-inch gash on his arm.

Lance Grangaard, 30, said he was “putting along” on his Ski-Doo Tundra on Thursday afternoon, coming down a frozen creek, when he saw the wolf out of the corner of his eye.

“I turned in time to stick my arm up,” said Grangaard, who was trapping with his father, Danny, in a remote area off the Taylor Highway known as Ketchumstuk. “A single black wolf grabbed my arm and started jerking on me.”

...

Said the elder Grangaard, “You could tell he was really distraught. He had tears in his eyes. He thought the wolf was still chasing him.”

...

Notable wolf attacks on humans in Alaska:

• March 8, 2010 — A 32-year-old school teacher, Candice Berner, was attacked and killed by wolves while jogging outside Chignik Lake

I liked The Grey. Liam Neeson was a good character. I’m guessing you know volumes more than me. Did he stand a chance in the final battle? Humor me, it’s Christmas.

I misread your post, thinking you were a member of the Weasel family, but caught my error while I was wondering how you learned to type so proficiently and shoot a slingshot.

Liam Neeson gets stranded in Alaska with a bunch of oil refinery workers from a plane crash and they are slowly picked off by giant wolves who are not afraid of humans. And no, it was not a happy ending.

Oh okay. Sounds interesting. This wasn't the best movie of the last century, but I kinda liked the movie with Anthony Hopkins called The Edge. Our favourite hot headed liberal Alec Baldwin in it too. It was pretty darned spooky in a few scenes.

Those are tanned hide prices, but still a lot has changed since I was a Trapper ... (Dried, not Tanned Prices) Skunk was avg $3.40, Otter avg $60.00, Beaver $30.00 to $65.00 (lot of size and quality variations in Beaver), Muskrat avg $1.50, Nutria avg $1.75, Raccoon avg $3.75, couldn’t even sell a Coyote (only skinned one, took me an hour and I can do a Muskrat in 15 seconds, Beaver in about 10 minutes) hell even a Possum was worth $.75 (to them/ not to me they are a pain to dry)... did get a Mountain Lion once but kept it. Lost a Wolverine but was really impressed by the damage that feller did gettin away.

Our Bread and Butter Trapping was Muskrat, Nutria and Beaver because they were easy easy easy and there were lots of them.

I actually like the Edge, even with Arec Barwin. ;) On a side note, I noticed you spelled favorite with “ou”. As an ex-canadian, it’s somewhat refreshing.

Looks good from the trailer! Hadn't heard about it before. I don't go to see too many films like I used to do in my younger days.

Yeah, he's actually a pretty good actor...or at least he was. I haven't seen a whole lot of his films, but he was a bad guy in that one and he was fun to watch in it.

Oh how neat! My mom is English, but that's not why I do it actually. Somehow we must have the British-English spell checker on our computer. So it comes up wrong if I type it the American way and I don't like to do things incorrectly, so I correct it. I know that's retarded because I know the American way is not "incorrect". Now I'm so used to doing it, I'm starting to just type it up the British way first. :)

Oh yeah and Mink $3.00 to $6.00, White or Tan Weasels avg $1.25 and they were the absolute easiest to trap, skin and dry (only thing needed was a coat hanger to dry them) ... didn’t even need to set a trap, just a pipe set in the ground with about 6” of water in the bottom cause them fellers go down every hole they find (specially with a little muskrat scent) and drown when they can’t back out ... but if they aren’t drowned you earn your money sticking your arm down there to retrieve them.

Might be fun for you to go to their web site as the three animals you mentioned are listed in there also. I’ve bought otter pelts, case skinned as my tribe made arrow quivers out the them and Fishers. Also have gotten Bear fangs from them as I carve them into salmon and make necklaces out of them. Never bought bear claws as I have about a hundred already but they do have them. Mostly I make great art out of deer and elk antlers. Necklaces, belt buckles, knife handles etc. Aloha from Maui
