In many ways, The Right had it all to play for in the 80’s.
The majority of world leaders were conservative, led by Asia and the Middle East, but with a not too insignificant Europe and the Americas pulling closely alongside. Communism was in its death throes, the unions were not far behind, and the good guys seemed destined to ride off into the sunset.
So what went so terribly wrong? How could the proverbial ball not only be dropped, but the outcome would be also an inglorious own goal?
Although many factors will come to the fore during the century to come, there are two areas that will never be debatable; the roles of education and the “upper middle class.”
1. New realities in the Global markets with new players.
2. Three wars in the Middle East.
If we’re talking America, 1 name: Ross Perot.
He majorly split the vote and Klintoon won twice as a result. Set us on our way to losing that Reagan edge.
Not blaming Perot per se for running of for people picking him (I voted him the 1st time); but he was by far the most successful 3rd candidate this century and we conservatives are more open-minded (despite dogma of the Left) and went for him because Bush ticked us off. It wasn’t Libs that gave Perot such a boost.
Perot was pro-abortion and willing to go door to door to confiscate guns, he was a curse to America.
A misunderstanding of human nature. Humans characteristically desire to enjoy the fruits of another’s labor, to have others serve them, to control the lives of others. Humans must be taught discipline and morality, it is contrary to our nature.
Historically, guidelines for behavior in the Christian west were established by Judeo-Christian precepts, which taught that a man should earn his own way, and not covet value created by another. In the post-Christian, secular west, we believe in many different and contradictory values systems; and each man decides for himself what is right, and what is wrong. But when a man sets himself up as judge he forgets that he is commonly a litigant in the same court. In the end, absent an absolute standard from a lawgiver greater than mortal man, these secular ‘moralities’ devolve into basic needs reduction, “What is good for me is good”. Under this scenario it is easy to justify why one’s failure is the fault of another, and why one ‘deserves’ what another has. After all, isn’t it ‘fair’ for me to have it as good as the other guy?
Liberty is born first in the hearts of men. Government is merely a vehicle through which that impulse may be implemented.
So the success of the left was really due to the destruction of the family and the moral fabric of western society. And it’s hard to see how we may return to our former state, barring a spiritual revival under the auspices of the risen Christ.
Complacency, pure and simple. It was significantly boosted by the fall of the Soviet Union which left the US as the sole superpower. Prosperity and technology have insulated us from the consequences of our actions & decions. We have had it so good for so long in this country that we forgot what pain really feels like. People embrace Marxism and denigrate Western culture because they percieive there’s no risk to it. While 9/11 briefly woke us from the slumber, it wouldn’t last. Seven years later, we were willing to elect a Commie/Muslim sypathizer as POTUS. Compared to Obama, Clinton looks like Eisenhower.
So, in short, we are victims of our own success.
It ain’t over yet my friend. It hasn’t reached a critical mass at this time. When that time comes it will be ‘Katy bar the door’ and cry HAVOC as far a I’m concerned.
The left has been pissing around trying to decide what to do. Don’t grant them the credit they don’t deserve. We’ll all know when the time is right to put the traitors and cowards out of their misery. Irregardless of what both major political parties in this country think the American people aren’t stupid. They can only be pushed so far before they get their hackles up.
I’d be willing to make a good bet that we are near the end of the the life span of both the Democrat and Republican parties. They might as well merge as far as I’m concerned as there is not difference between the two. The deal was struck a long time ago.
Keep your eys open, your powder dry, and your trigger finger ready.
It was the result of a takeover of our entire culture (media, education, entertainment industry, arts, etc.) by idealogues who never sleep,never give up, and never admit that they just may be wrong. It is a cultural virus that feeds on human desire for equality of results in human actions, which is a complete fantasy. Nevertheless, it sounds good, and in a brainwashed culture, that’s all that matters. Over 100 million lost their lives in the 20th Century to this fantasy, and it made no difference whatsoever. It will take a complete financial collapse to wake the public up, and that could prove to be very violent when the makers run out of money to feed the takers. And as history has shown us, societal upheavals never end up the way anyone predicts (French, Russian Revolutions).
Nero recognized this human condition in the 1st Century, so he burned Rome (to start things over and reset them to his liking), then fed the masses with handouts and blamed the fires on the Christians. Sound familiar?
The first mistake was made by Ronald Reagan when he chose George Bush as his running mate. Had he chosen Paul Laxalt or Jack Kemp, there would have been no Bush dynasty, and the power of the RINOs might have been broken for good.
Had George Bush not broken his "no new taxes" pledge and tried to reverse the Reagan Revolution, Perot wouldn't have made much of an impact.
During the Vietnam War, the universities turned out large numbers of liberal “educators.” These educated our kids and the next generation of “educators.” Wash, rinse, and repeat. Today, education, media, and popular culture are overwhelmingly liberal, and so are young voters. Big surprise.
