Yeah, and now, they can give the "I'm one of Holder's people" line. Retribution, don-cha-know...
Hickey Thompson's companion, Latoya N. Greenwood, an East St. Louis councilwoman (!), was issued a ticket for disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor. Greenwood works at East St. Louis School District 189.

There you are wrong, they have no right unless they have observed you shoplifting....
It’s three steps from the register to the front door under close scrutiny....
Please tell me what law or right they have, and be specific....
Interesting. Some are speculating that Latoya Greenwood is actually Councilwoman Latoya Greenwood of St. Louis. There are comments on her facebook page (this crime happened in St. Louis).
I hit the big 7-0 last summer and still don’t consider myself “elderly.”
“Latoya”. Give me a minute to think what race she is. Gimmie a minute. Just another minute.........
it seems the Althoff Catholic High School didn’t effect much this mo-fu....
It’s a private establishment, you’re leaving with merchandise from the establishment and they have every right to check for a purchase receipt. In some states they’d be within the law to detain you for refusing, but they’d have to release you with a set amount of time deemed “reasonable.” An hour or two at most.
We need a pitcure. The guy could sue them, but all they’ll have is a few used Obama phones.
Whatever they might have done probably got undone in the four years of Obama's administration, I'd wager.
Here's another story with more info: Belleville Man Charged With Battery:

They bought something somewhere else in the store, so he had to check their receipt.
elderly to me would be some frail, stooped over quite older person....if 61 is "elderly" than 81 must be super sonic elderly, or something....
like "gay" used to mean happy...
like "handicapped" and "disabled" used to mean somebody in a wheelchair....
and "poor" used to mean really poor, no food, clothes, etc....
nowadays "poor" people have lap tops, huge tv's,the newest phones, and fancy clothes.....but they still call them "poor"....
There is a reason that they ask to see your receipt.
You are sneaky looking.
Its a pretty common scam among many. My sister works at Walmart and says the most common one is to go into the store with empty bags and try to walk out the front like they bought the stuff. Another is to buy something then come back the next day with the receipt from the day before and walk out with another of the same item.
Pretty much all the stores around here do the same. Where they have self check outs they have someone look at those too.
Sam’s Club checks your purchases against the receipt before you go out the door.
I didn’t know this was against the law.
La Toilette didn’t like that.
