Some may prefer English, or even the original French, because it ain’t just a musical piece. It is a spiritual work, and that means the more the merrier! There will probably be an entire section of Heaven dedicated to just this one song.

It is impossible to see how so many can still be so small minded when this strain fills your heart. It is the best Christmas song extant, and who would have expected such a song to have been penned in French?!?
I can assure you that it is the best, because through it, God brought the wonderful message of salvation to me. And it is even more wonderful in the French!

My Dad loved Jussi, and i was raised on his version of all the tenor arias. I especially loved his rendition of “Salute, demurer chaste i pure”(spelling probably wrong) from Faust. His voice had a youthfulness and silkiness that really went well with the French lyrics.

The first time I heard it was done by Mario Lanza on Christmas eve standing outside the terminal on the tarmack waiting for a “hop” at Andrews AFB 1951. The sky was completely dark and the sound filled the air, truly inspirational.
A soaring tenor voice is one of life’s great aural pleasures. Much more preferable to a soaring soprano, IMO (even though I “pretend” to be a soprano myself).
