For the past 3 days I have been plodding through an essay (actually Chapter 4 of a book called The Great Heresies) by Hilaire Belloc that I find recondite, but interesting. The subject is The Great and Enduring heresy of Mohammed. It purposts to trace the history of “Mohammadism” from its rise through present day. Since Belloc died in 1953 — “present day” is before a lot of the members of this class were born.

I am left wondering what Belloc would think today, since many of the gains of “Christondom” have slipped away in the last decade. I found this piece posted on Free Republic and printed it for reading and before I realized that it is 26 pages long.

And what is teacher’s reason for being late today? Is it a storm?

Obama’s goals regarding the “Fiscal Cliff” are hardly recondite ... Basically, they involve making the current tax code inert by establishing permanently high rates in the interest of “fairness,” and continuing to demonize the Rich as the culprits responsible for the current economy. If any minor reductions to targeted groups do occur, then the Media will give The One credit for his great concern and compassion for the middle class. (“Uhhh, we once tried it their way, and look what happened!”)

Neither his blatant deceit nor any truly worthwhile proposals put forth by the GOP will make any difference in this drama.  The slavish lackeys in the Press certainly don’t have to be enticed or pressured to fall in line; like vultures, they’ve noticed Republicans are afraid of any negative coverage, and are ripe to have this debacle placed in their lap.

Not another storm, thank God. A sinus infection. Was unable to sleep last night, slept in this morning, then woke up realizing I had to hustle to make my doctor’s appointment. Was there forever. I came straight home to post the classroom. I just ran out for my antibiotics. I hope they work. My head is exploding with pain.

Did you happen to catch the “what the heck is a Belk” bowl?

Duke was up 16-0 in the first quarter, then allowed Cincy 27 straight points.

They settled in on a 34 all tie and with under 2 minutes, Duke was inside Cincy’s 10 yard line.

They threw a graphic on the screen “Duke looking for first bowl win since 1960”.

Sure enough, they fumbled on the next play and faster than you can say “jinx” Cincy hit their tight end 20 yards downfield and he ran in for a touchdown.

I hope you get to feeling better-I think it is ridiculous that researchers whine for (and get) money to research idiocy like the effects of heavy lifting on rats or whatever, but no one seems able to research or find a remedy for a sinus infection like yours that comes back every winter-I guess there isn’t any money in it for the right people...

And frivolous research reminds me of a movie title from my youth-”The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds”, or something like that...

Why is the cause of national debt
A recondite matter to see
For many who claim intelligence,
But are less so than you and me

The facts fit into a sentence-
Just one, from beginning to end
When you owe far too much money
You do not continue to spend

If you tax workers more to give
More stuff to your new Roman mob
You can’t get blood from a turnip,
Because not many will have a job

I’m so sorry that you are not feeling well. When the classroom was not open (forever and ever) this AM, I assumed it had something to do with projected snow in the NE. After I wrote that, I saw that you were battling a sinus infection. I hope your medication has offered some relief by now.

Yeah, the Steelers radio guy jinxed the kicker during the last game. “He hasn’t missed a FG from under 40 yards all season” right before he did so.

Normally one of the other radio guys will shush someone when they start saying things like that.

The antibiotic is working, but I still feel lousy. Now we have another snowstorm dumping inches of snow on top of the last round. It’s a good time to hunker down in my pjs and watch that dang white stuff fall from the sky.

A local channel is doing a retro on SU football. Just saw Floyd Little being interviewed and the 32-31 win over WV. Can’t quite concentrate on it. My head still hurts.

Thank you for yesterday’s grade, and glad you are getting better-my hike this morning was a kindling mission, too-it was brisk, cloudy and 45, and plenty of broken small limbs on the ground from the recent winds...

I don’t see how any pharmaceutical concern wouldn’t rush to discover and patent something to cure a cold-if it were turned into an over-the-counter thing, they would likely make 100’s of $1000’s each day just from people not wanting to miss work, never mind those who develop other problems every time they catch one. I realize it would be in small bills, but so what-it all spends the same, doesn’t it?

On the absence of said cure, my favorite shortener for colds is Zicam, maybe some echinacea, and the Neti pot-that works for me.

Good morning, xsmommy! I'm doing better than I was the other day, thanks! Made it in to the office Thursday and yesterday. I got sick late in the day yesterday but hung on at the office until 7:00. Was running a fever when I got home. Had a good sleep - woke up at about 10:00 this morning. Resting today.

I hope eveything is going well with you!

You’ve got to remember they already make lots of money selling Nyquil and other remedies for colds and flus.

And I’ve never heard of that type of pot, but smoking it will surely exacerbate a cough.

My cub gave me two pairs of those plaid flannel lounge pants-they look very comfy and warm-I have a couple of thermal knit tops that will go with them, too-I might wear those tonight while watching TV instead of my usual cold weather fleece lounger...
