China is experiencing unusual chills this winter with its national average temperature hitting the lowest in 28 years, and snow and ice have closed highways, canceled flights, stranded tourists and knocked out power in several provinces.

China Meteorological Administration on Friday said the national average was −3.8°C (25°F) since late November, the coldest in nearly three decades. The average temperature in northeast China dipped to −15.3°C (4.5°F), the coldest in 43 years, and dropped to a 42-year low of −7.4°C (18.7°F) in northern China. …

The state-run English-language China Daily reported Friday that about 1,000 ships were stuck in ice in Laizhou Bay in eastern China’s Bohai Sea. …

When you've invented a cult, facts don't matter - anything that happens is going to be portrayed as proof that your doomsday predictions are justified.

While on the subject of cult identification, it might be time to properly label Socialists and Communists as cultists. They ignore the facts from history and the present era, that demonstrate and prove socialism and communism are not productive ways to run an economy. Heck, even Putin is trying to tell them they are wrong. And they just keep ignoring all advice and just keep heading straight for the cliff.

I have been trying not to think about the poor souls in places like North Korea where the serfs and slaves have no electricity and probably won’t have any trees soon.

Saw the AP tag, so was patiently reading and waiting for it...at the end of the article I was not disappointed...

“The national meteorological administration said China is seeing dropping temperatures partly because of south-moving polar cold fronts, caused by melting polar ice from global warming.”

Have you ever looked at a globe?

70% of the planet is covered in water, much of it three miles deep.

You sound like a lunatic when you say we are running out of water. If anything, we should be more concerned about running out of land. However, nearly half the landmasses on this planet are still uninhabited - pure wilderness. And 80% of the other 50% is sparsely populated. If all the available land on Earth was divided among the current living population, we'd each have nearly six acres of land all to ourselves.

I'll take my six acres in Hawaii please.

By living we are always “destroying” something...even our selves. However, the comment “we are destroying ALL the water” takes the cake as one of the most lame-brained things I have read today. It is a weekend. Maybe mental hospitals allow internet access on weekends.

Never seen a globe. What is that?

We are decreasing the amount of clean drinking water and clean ocean water. This is indisputable. Do you dispute my contentions about PCBs and mercury?

I have never understood how as conservatives we cannot be concerned about the quality of our natural resources. How did that become the property of loony liberals?

This is not about business vs. enviro-nuts. This is about future generations having access to clean air and water. We have already shown that it is possible to accomplish these goals. Years ago, Denver was the pig sty of America. When I had business or pleasure to attend to there I practically needed a gas mask to breathe. Now they have done a great job of cleaning up that place. That has been to the benefit of business and the residents. Good business is dependent on a healthy populace, except for perhaps the pharmaceutical industry.
