Delta said it “will be reaching out to the customer directly to discuss how we can make this right.”
Delta is checking their lost and found section (leftovers after TSA thefts) to see if they have a similar guitar or other instrument of equivalent value, such as an oboe, set of drums, or maybe a violin.
I have hardshell cases for my Jackson and my Charvel that together are nowhere near the value of that Gibson.
What idiot moves that kind of guitar out of his house or off the stage without a real case..
But in a freaking bag? I’m sorry a piece of history was lost. But not for him.
Why would you say such a thing. The guy begged and offered to buy an extra ticket for his guitar. Are you on the wrong website?

I’ve been a business traveler for 25 years, and even when a novice traveler I knew better than to check something of value on an airline.

Still, hope they take a lesson from previous incidents like this and realize that the bad buzz could cost them many many times the value of the guitar in bad publicity.
Nowadays I play upright bass. I really wish the US would adopt the policy that Eurail used to have, all professional classical musicians my bring their instrument along, in a seat, at no charge. (My upright bass cost a good deal more than his guitar, hell I’ve played BOWS valued at about twice that guitar costs, guitarists are such whiners compared to bassists).
Yeah... I remember back when I was a little kid in the ‘70s, I got invited to the cockpit. The Captain gave me a pair of wings and asked if I liked gladiator movies.
Oh, perhaps they got better over the years and if so, I’ll retract immediately. But the last actual Gibson case I saw was little more than thick cardboard. It literally flexed with ease. And if it was the original case for the guitar, it was likely that build.
If not, I stand corrected. But I’d still put something like that in a flight case if I traveled with it at all.
Delta once forced my wife to purchase a ticket to an Islamic country because they said she could not fly to Israel with a one way ticket as an American Citizen. We had a visa stamp that said one way tickets were ok, but they refused to even look at the passport! They said we could get our money back on the ticket. Then then did some bankruptcy thing and I got stiffed for the ticket.
Delta was extremely rude to my wife, blackmailed her for a few hundred bucks more than she had on her. Had to emergency get her money so she could fly on a flight she already had tickets for. She was returning from her Dads funeral. Did not go over well.
Obviously we will never fly Delta again. Customers are herded like sheep, they will NOT listen to anything you have to say. Just ignore you and repeat the manual to you.
The TSA and Delta are a match, not made in Heaven.
And if the guitarist weighed 450 lbs, they would have demanded he buy an extra seat. Funny airline rules. Moral to the story is to get some really huge fat ass to join the entourage and sit with the guitar case. Rappers seem to have no trouble finding fat asses for their entourages, if they aren't obese themselves.
