Crowther’s review is mixed, but “Shadow of a Doubt” is one of my favorite Hitchcock films. The only reminder that it was made in the war years is all the uniforms in the crowd scenes in downtown Santa Rosa. I’m sorry to say 1943 is starting out to be a pretty weak year for Hollywood. The next one I was inspired to save for posting isn’t until March 3. – HJS.
