Today was a beautiful sunny day in Central PA. I started my day by going to Mechanicsburg Sportsmen Association to do a little shooting. It was a great time and like always the people at MSA were friendly. A couple of other members and I helped a new member to learn to shoot. It was the first time she went shooting. I have to say she has guts. She is single and doesn't know anyone in the area since she recently moved her. She went to the range with the intent of teaching herself. She got a lot more from friendly people, including a big dose of safety. She will be signing up for the NRA Women on Target clinic.
After going to MSA I did some chores, going to Lowes and the grocery store. I carried my 92FS throughout the day. After chores, I took a drive over to Trops Gun Shop over in E-town. The shop was packed with people, and many of the shelves were bare. I was able to buy the last brick of CCI small pistol primers and two bricks of .22 LR. When I made my purchase I was able to pay cash and I was not asked for ID. This is they way it should be.
Just a bit of perspective for non-shooting FReepers, the purchase consisted of a 1000 primers to reload handgun ammo and a 1000 .22 rounds. Often times, the MSM will report how someone is arrested and has an arsenal of several weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammo. That scares people that do not know any better. But 1000 rounds for my family to just plink at the range is only several outings.
The reason I trekked over to Trops today (it is a bit out of the way) was that Trops is boycotting the Eastern Outdoors and Sports show (aka Eastern Sportsmen's Show) and I wanted to give them some business. The Sportsmen's Show is the largest in the country and is held each February at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA. This year the promoter of the show has banned tactical weapons (AR-15's) and high capacity magazines. I will not be going to the show this year and spend money on admission that will go to liberals.
After I left Trops, I received a call on my cell as I was driving home. A friend of mine was given two ducks from a neighbor and has never cleaned a duck. I offered to show him how to clean ducks. He said that their would be an Imperial Pale Ale from Troegs Brewery waiting for me. The beer was great and he learned how to clean ducks.
nice post; sounds like it was a great day!
I also celebrated by going to my gun club, and shooting my pistol, rifle and shotgun. Got some cleaning to do now....
I urged everyone I know to go to the Sports show.
Though I disagree with their decision on AR’s I will not give Obama and he media any “ammunition” to use in the attack on the 2nd Amendment. If the gun show attendance is down significantly it will become the daily talking point for the liberal media to “prove” their point that most Americans agree with what Obama is doing......
Sounds like a great day.
I celebrated National Gun Appreciation Day by providing individual training to a realtively new lady shooter who had been having trouble with her Glock 17. By the end of our time together, she was shooting consistant 2” groups.
It was a good afternoon.
I respectfully disagree. The liberal media is making up statistics and "facts" that are outright lies already. They already twist the truth.
I live my life based on principles and based on principles I will not give my hard earned money to liberals. Based on principles, I spent money at a business that was told it could not display their wares at the show.
The liberal media could just as well write stories about how successful the show was without black weapons and hi-cap mags, with the intent of saying, "See, look at all these hunters that don't care about those evil weapons that kill innocent children. They support gun bans."
That is not for me. A boycott is a peaceful way to protest. I will continue to do everything peaceful that I can until the day they come to my home to confiscate my weapons. That day will not be peaceful, but my soul is prepared and I know what happens after gun confiscation.
Live Free or Die.
The MSA are good people. I was there today as well but I was inside volunteering with the NRA/Winchester safety program for kids. Week 2 of of probably 6, before we administer the final test and graduation awards. This is the second year I’ve done this and I think an often overlooked part of the 2A culture - developing the next generation of responsible shooting enthusiasts.
As an aside...Mrs. McMonkey took the Women on Target clinic last year and had nothing but praise for it. The gal that sets that up and runs it you may or may not know, is a pretty sharp cookie.
Good report, and like you, I'll have nothing to do with the ESOS until/unless they get their Constitutional minds right.
My Mom gave me a knife with a gut hook. Very handy! I used to gut ‘em and pluck ‘em as soon as they hit the ground. As you know, they’re easiest to pluck when they’re still warm. Made the mistake, early on, of not pluckin’ a goose right away. What a PITA to do once I got home!
My wife and I both went to a gun show and the National Gun Appreciation Day here in Montgomery , Alabama today ,
There was some where between 300 and 400 people there. Just one protester that I saw. We had a great time , so did the rockisland .45 compact and the 1942 Enfield .303 on finding new homes.
One important point made at the rally was that it is time to get in touch with your state representatives wherever you live, and start lobbying. Not just emails and phone calls, but with personal meetings in the capital. Your state representatives are a lot more approachable than the president and congress, you can get to talk to them face to face.

Congrats on your contributions to Gun Appreciation Day. We need more like you, brother.
Went hiking, then off to Cabelas to buy some bullets for reloading. The placw was mobbed. Many shelves were bare.

the gun show had a line an hour after opening about 200 yds. long trying to get in ,one of the longest lines I’ve seen at this local show. The rally was the 300-400 people.
