Singer Tony Bennett brought up Nazi Germany at a press conference in Washington where he demanded gun control.
TONY BENNETT: It's the kind of turn that happened to the great country of Germany, when Nazis came over and created tragic things, and they had to be told off. And if we continue this kind of violence and accept it in our country, the rest of the world's going to really take care of us, in a very bad way.

Bennett is wrong, of course. He has it exactly backwards. But I would not judge him too harshly.
Bennett served in the 63rd Infantry Division during WW II. From Wikipedia (Tony Bennett was born Anthony Benedetto):
As the German Army was pushed back to its homeland, Benedetto and his company saw bitter fighting in cold winter conditions, often hunkering down in foxholes as German 88 mm guns fired on them. At the end of March, they crossed the Rhine and entered Germany, engaging in dangerous house-to-house, town-after-town fighting to clean out German soldiers; during the first week of April, they crossed the Kocher River, and by the end of the month reached the Danube. During his time in combat, Benedetto narrowly escaped death several times. The experience made him a pacifist.
Now we know what was wrong with the Nazis: they weren't tyrannical enough!

Hitler didn’t come to power on the promise of killing the Jews....He promised “Peace, Land, Bread”, just like the Bolsheviks did some 15 years before....and just as the modern Democratic Party does today.
Yep and that always confused me. I don’t understand why Hitler hated the communists. Tyranny is tyranny, so I don’t have a clue as to what motivated him to attack Russia...

I agree. Plus we have a fawning press and a cult like voting public. It seems as if we see a parallel every day to Hitler’s reign.
Keep in mind that Hitler was really only in power for about 12 years. In modern times, I’m sure you can do 12 years worth of work in 8 years.....

Some liberal entertainers are just brain-dead. Others might very well see the writing on the wall and simply want to cozy up to the new “ruling elite” so that the elite will think they are “good-guys” and won’t confiscate all of their stuff, too.
With gun control, the U.S. WILL turn into some kind of Socialist nightmare.
If you talk to Tony Bennett about music (I stood by while my husband had a conversation), he suddenly gains 25 IQ points. As Jackie Mason would say: it’s his field. When people like Bennett get out of their comfort zone, the results are not pretty!
