KCAL News Chopper Ordered to Stop Aerial Coverage of Manhunt
KCAL Channel 9 in Los Angeles | Febraury 7, 2013 | vanity

Watching live coverage of local TV news. Chopper pilot reports that he was "ordered" to stop showing the area of the search for Christopher Dorner.

I didn't know that was possible.

When lives are at stake I think the press should back off.

I guess you would have been fine for the press to back off at WACO too. Heh?

“Put yourself in his shoes, wouldn’t you be watching the coverage by the MSM that is prone to broadcasting every move law enforcement makes?”

No. I’d be hauling ass. I wouldn’t be watching TV.

From what I've read on his “manifesto”...he's a nut case.

That said...he may be a smart nut case.

Since we're now in your shoes, why did you burn your vehicle that was reportedly found up in the hills?

Use Gen. Schwarzkopf’s method.

When you want to concentrate on the suspect in an area of interest, fake out the news media (lie to them).

Set up a diversion, complete with search teams and helicopters, in another area.

News will report, suspect will watch (or hear on radio), and perhaps get a little complacent.

I would go this.

He’d probably be busy negotiating a deal with the Obama administration whereby he can become Obama’s poster boy for gun control, “racial equality”, and against police brutality.

The FAA DID NOT ISSUE A TFR, any orders given are NOT ORDERS and NO Pilot is required to follow them. I have the aopa TFR page open, NO TFR’s . and I just looked and found no NOTAMS either. This is just THUGS protecting one of their own and the Citizens be Damned. If I were flying around there right now I would be demanding his AUTHORITY to Override the FAA. And just to be clear ONLY THE FAA can issue NOTAMS or TFR’s.

“Interference in the duties of LEO has always been illegal.

The really don’t need the news helicopter giving this guy tactical information.”

“Interference” is pretty ill-defined. Are you sure that its just that they don’t want any more videos of shootings of women who happen to be driving the same vehicle as the suspect (strange, though - there were apparently no dogs in the truck).

I’m glad that I drive something fairly unique...

No Police Officer, FBI agent or ANY OTHER PERSON other than the FAA can order any Aircraft to leave an area that does not have an ACTIVE TFR in Place issued by the FAA and PUBLISHED, Not even the Governor of ANY STATE,

You might actually get the facts straight before spouting nonsense about a subject you obviously know nothing about, and Yes I am a Pilot and have 2 airplanes.

They are real slow publishing this on their site then, which is ALWAYS DONE FIRST, that is how the controllers get it, so Until it is published it is not valid, not to mention it isn’t much of a TFR anyway, 3 miles and 3000 ft is nothing, and They could all still film away if they wanted to. They do it all the time for FIRES, and so have I.

honestly, I have been hoping and praying for weeks now that ‘the authorities’ would try to restrict 1A rights of the press as they are trying to restrict everyone else’s 2A rights. Why not? One disposable Amendment is as good as the next, isn’t it?
