Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) wants to bring back the military draft and require women to register for the Selective Service. On Friday, Rangel reintroduced the so-called draft bill, known officially as The National Universal Service Act (H.R. 747), and The All American Selective Service Act (H.R. 748), which would require all women between 18 and 25 to register.
"Now that women can serve in combat they should register for the Selective Service alongside their male counterparts," Rangel said in a statement. "Reinstating the draft and requiring women to register for the Selective Service would compel the American public to have a stake in the wars we fight as a nation. We must question why and how we go to war, and who decides to send our men and women into harm's way." Rangel said if Americas young women were forced to fight, citizens would be more reticent to go to war.
"I served in Korea, and understand that sometimes war is inevitable," said Rangel. "However military engagement should be our last resort. If we must go to war, every American should be compelled to stop and think twice about whether it is worth sending our brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters to fight."
Rangel has been a longstanding proponent of bring back the draft. "Currently less than one percent of America's population is unfairly shouldering the burden of war," he explained.

This has always been the intent of the Democrats. The goal is to make the military another arm of the Democratic party.
Muslims will balk and refuse to register because their allegiance is first to Islam and NOT to America.
RATS will relent and give the ROP a pass.
Great idea. Would love to see this play out.
Wuz you in one of those black battalions that went over to the enemy?
Rangel is nothing if not consistent. He’s been trying to reinstate the draft pretty much his entire congressional career. Always under the guise that a lack of opportunities force blacks to join the military in higher numbers than their percentage of the population. Funny thing is, in today’s Obamaconomy, the military is a pretty damn good job!
Those evil republicans!
They’ve already done a pretty good job twisting the top officers, i.e. Joint Chiefs and top commanders to authorize what was unthinkable not long ago. Over the course of just ONE Administration, within the military it is now OK to be openly gay, and it’s OK to have women in combat. Not bad for a POTUS who loathes the military. And a disgrace to those who hold high positions which were more important to them than the future of the services or the country.
And I was in NAAM.......
Hey Skypilot,
Remeber I said I’d bookmark this discussion: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2982786/posts
I figured 6 months from then...it didn’t even take them that long to start talking about a draft...
Amazing. I wonder why Rangel is so pro-draft?
I was speaking of RANGEL. I doubt you were old enough for Korea.
I was in Thailand and Okinawa myself in 1968 & 69.
He certainly has been consistent. When the economy was doing well, circa, 2001-2008, he advocated for a draft. While the all-volunteer force was at reenlistment highs, he advocated for the draft. I suspect his agenda is to return to the 60s when white privilege meant minorities disproportionately were drafted, i.e., a grievance.
Charlie needs to concentrate on paying his fair share.
Go Charlie go. You liberals now go tell those screaming mothers that their 18 year old daughter must register and die for her country if need be!! And if those little girls refuse they must go to prison. This is why we defeated the ERA but they just go around it. Putting women in combat is absurd beyond insane but equal means equal— men die— women die too.Let’s go girls— get on the bus.
They wanted equality, now let them prove it.
OMG imagine the constituency of this d0uchebag.
America’s future is grim.
And whose side were you on, Charlie? The NorKs or the Chicoms?
ALL women should have to register. Men have had to register for some time. It’s time for women, ALL women, to catch up and truly be equal. And no exemptions for pregnancy and children. “If Uncle Sam wanted you to have a child, he would have issued you one.” You got the vote ladies, and you keep electing these Democrats. Now it’s time for the rest of your civics lesson. Women can take a bullet to the head just as easily as a man can. Put on your blue cords, girls! Come and join the Infantry!
What does he care? His fat @ss is sitting in some beach chair asleep.
Your idea would be extremely costly just to prove a point. A draft is a terrible idea unless necessary. You get a bunch of substandard troops that don’t want to be there. Women can’t compete and many will get pregnant on purpose.
Ok...you ready for the rest of the puzzle pieces?
Note the name proposed: National Universal Service
Does the phrase Universal Service sound even remotely familiar to something from 0bama’s first term? Here, does this help?
H.R.5741 - Universal National Service Act
To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes.

I went looking for the current proposal text and it isn’t available ...yet. http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/747/cosponsors
But if I recall correctly the last time included a civilian style “draft” as well as a military component. This isn’t anything new as another Freeper pointed out. Rangel has proposed this more than several times, each time though the new incarnation is more sinister than the last.
What did 0bama say about a civilian force just as well trained/armed etc. as our military? What do you think all those guns and bullet purchases are for?
Let’s not forget about our wonderful Illegal Immigrants.
Equality for all!
If they want to stay in the U.S. then they should be made to serve in our military to gain citizenship. Let’s see how many would stay!
FUCR - it’s to do away with the military and raise State Militia’s
Rangel draft because he is an antiwar commie. He once said that if people were drafted there would be more people to protest against the war. At the time it was Gulf War 2. An all voluntary military means there are far fewer disgruntled service members and families. Most are proud to serve.
In other words, Rangel wants the draft to weaken the military. He is a commie like the rest of them.
Wasn't the cry from the left before the all volunteer military that blacks were unfairly shouldering the burden of war?
The more things change the more the Commies remain the same.
Doesn’t Rangle do this every session?
(Or did someone already answer my question below?)
Because he's over 35 and ineligible. He doesn't care.
Ping! #23
It is a citizen’s duty to defend her country. If you get to vote, then you also get the right to take a bullet in the head. The fact that you might elect a stupid s**t, like Obama, could wind up costing you your life. That blood on the walls in Benghazi.....was that male American blood or female American blood? Do most American women even care about dead American Soldiers?

I believe he is a commie. I believe he is anti-war. But this statement, here I almost completely agree with. Men were proud to serve in WWII despite being drafted.
Remember, he perceives the world through the prism of Vietnam’s antiwar movement. It is a tool to weaken the military. It all works like rust. It just eats away until it gets too weak to support itself.

Thats the thing, the Vietnam anti-war movement worked. His logic I believe is well placed. If the pain of a war is universally felt by the public, would it still be pushed? While there is anti-war movements for every war. I am a veteran, and I felt I was well paid by the military. When we are discussion such major conflicts (Gulf Wars), I just wonder how different the discussion would be, if it was known that they would have to call americans from the inactive reserve. I don’t want soft diplomacy like we are currently seeing, but if the draft was part of the calculation of war planning in this country, I wonder if it would bring more power back to us.
