People you expect to see towards the end of a typical Oscar ceremony: Jack Nicholson. People don't expect to see: First Lady Michelle Obama. Presenting the final award of Sunday's very long Academy Awards -- Best Picture -- three-time Oscar winner Nicholson, 75, introduced the President's wife, 49, appearing via satellite from the White House.

"Thank you Jack, and welcome to the White House everyone. I'm so honored to introduce the nominees for Best Picture," said the First Lady, resplendent in a Naeem Khan dress plus chandelier earrings. "And to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our minds and transport us to places we have never imagined."

Flanked by servicemen and women, Mrs. Obama praised the nine Best Picture nominees' uplifting qualities: "These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are or what we look like or where we come from or who we love, but they are especially important for our young people . . . I want to thank all of you here tonight for being part of that vitally important work."

Obama then went back to Nicholson, who awarded the trophy to an emotional Ben Affleck and the entire Argo crew. What was behind Obama's inclusion?

I let myself momentarily indulge in a bit of fantasy, when she said, “And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for...”

Really? Your husband’s resigning?!

But it was just the Best Picture award.

I ended up watching against my better judgment, but at least DVR-delayed so I didn’t have to sit through the commercials, too.

Best moment of the night: Shirley Bassey (following the one thing I’d been looking forward to, the Bond tribute, that turned out to be pretty weak). I sat there hoping she was going to do a medley of the three Bond themes she’s recorded (the only artist to do more than one in the history of the franchise; Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker being the other two), but no such luck.

Unfortunately, my wife wanted to see the red carpet fashion parade, so I also suffered through watching the smarmy, painfully shallow and anorexic-looking pixie Kristin Chenoweth with her vaccu-formed Lon Chaney smile.

“I’m in with the in crowd
I go where the in crowd goes
I’m in with the in crowd
And I know what the in crowd knows
Anytime of the year, don’t you hear?
Dressing fine, making time

We breeze up and down the street
We get respect from the people we meet
They make way day or night
They know the in crowd is out of sight

I’m in with the in crowd
I know every latest dance
When you’re in with the in crowd
It’s so easy to find romance
Any time of the year, don’t you hear?
If it’s square, we ain’t there

We make every minute count
Our share is always the biggest come out
Other guys imitate us
But the original is still the greatest in crowd
Any time of the year, don’t you hear?
Spendin’ cash, talkin’ trash

I’ll show you a real good time
Come on with me, leave your troubles behind
I don’t care where you’ve been
You ain’t been nowhere ‘til you’ve been in
With the in crowd, with the in crowd, in crowd.”
(Lyrics by Billy Page)

The FLOTUS has the emotional maturity of a 14-year old.

Cheap publicity? Hollywood fawning?

Every time Kristin spoke I wanted to go screaming down the street (my wife was watching it). She sounded like she was breathing helium before she spoke.

Ditto that, though I was in and out of the living room. Dunno why Mrs WBill finds those shows so fascinating.

Agree that the butt-kissing on the red carpet was painful to watch, but not as painful as Seth McFarland trying to be funny.

Shirley Bassey really belted it out. She's still got it. I also saw the singer do "Skyfall" (what's her name? dunno, suppose it's not important). I thought that she beat Bassey. IMHO, "Skyfall" might be the best Bond theme. She had the perfect voice to pull it off.

Also, I had gone to bed long before Moochelle dragged herself in front of the cameras.

Jeez you'd think that the Obamas sycophants would get tired of looking at them. No accounting for taste, I suppose.

The Obamas are more interested in being celebrities than public leaders. Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush, and just about every other first lady had too much class to get involved with something like this. (Hillary probably would have appeared at the Oscars if her publicist had thought of it.)

I don’t recall Laura or Barbara having Ocsar appearances. How much did all this cost us taxpayers?

And sung by Dobie Gray? If someone here remembers “I’m in With the In Crowd”, maybe I’m not so old myself.

Anyway, Ben Stein says Moochelle was wearing a dress made of aluminum foil and being surrounded by military men when she’s not head of state made her look like Evita Peron.

Who cares about Michelle Obama?

Who cares about Hollywood!!! I saw Skyfall and I'm looking forward to the new Star Trek movie, but I don't go to movies much...

that crap with the 1st lady ruined the show for me.. I was digging the show up until then.. both the wifey and I..

interesting, how ARGO wins best picture.. in which (and I haven’t seen the movie so I may be off here) Hollywood concocts a way to get the bad guys , without firing a shot.

meanwhile in the real world, Zero Dark Thirty depicted close to what actually happened, but that was completely shunned by those hollywood people... a bit too much reality for them I guess...

Notice how the military in full dress uniforms are the back drop for the photo op? Reminds one of Hillary using the military as waiters at their formal dinners. These limousine liberals are like pornography, no redeeming social value.
