Jimmy Kimmel always has the last laugh.
Morrissey learned that lesson on Tuesday night, after the former front man for The Smiths canceled his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at the last minute because he learned the cast of “Duck Dynasty” would be guest on the same night.
Never one to back away from controversy, Kimmel addressed the cancellation on his show, thanking the band Churchill filling in for Morrissey on such short notice.
Kimmel read the statement Morrissey issued to explain his refusal to appear on the show.
“[Morrissey] is a vegan and a staunch animal rights activist,” Kimmel explained.
Morrissey stated he could not “morally be on a television program where the cast members of ‘Duck Dynasty’ will also be guests.” He added “as far as my reputation is concerned I can’t take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers.”
Kimmel said Morrissey gave him an ultimatum, saying the comedian had to choose between him and the cast of the A&E show.
“While I respect his stance on this-- I really do— there’s a very good reason why I didn’t dump the “Duck Dynasty” guys for Morrissey,” Kimmel said on the air. “It’s because they have guns, and Morrissey doesn’t.
And the late-night host didn’t stop there.
“He keeps finding new ways to depress us,” he quipped of the musician.

As a Gen Xer, I grew up with The Smiths and Morrissey’s solo work.
He’s never made a secret of his politics (c.f. his song “Margaret on the Guillotine” for a particularly florid example). Nevertheless, sometimes his music was suitable for listening to when I was in one of those hormone-fuelled teen angst moods, and I’d sit in the basement, brooding and writing dark poetry.
Nevertheless, even then, most of us wave and punk fans used to joke amongst ourselves that every Morrissey album was sold with a razor blade, and the admonition that it’s: “down the block, not across the street”!

“Duck Dynasty” ? I thought that was about some ancient Chinese regime. As for that poofter, Morrissey, how can he be a vegan when he gets stuffed with meat ?

I’m so tired of today’s femmy sissy bands with no talent. Where are the Led Zeppelin’s, AC/DC’s, RUSH’s, Ozzie’s, etc??? Frail, soulless female lead singers with metrosexual femmy boy ‘musicians’ playing acoustic guitars, ARGH!!! Where’s the soul? Where’s the passion? Where’s the hard-hitting electric guitarists, bass players and drummers? A few generations of emasculated boys raised by single moms has destroyed music. Oh wait, there’s rap! Still waiting for rap to disappear after what, 30 years? ARGH!!!!

I can agree with you on cRAP (oh my goodness!), but there is SO much new music that I like on the alternative station. Music that has interesting, no rude lyrics. People playing guitars. Melodies. I’ve been reborn.

I don’t know if that was the exact term and if that’s what he meant, but I’m pretty darned sure it was regarding 4 general ways. There’s a Beavis/Butthead video upthread where he looks like he’s getting aroused near some rocks. Maybe it’s men, women, rocks...still need #4.

Didn’t Morrisey just cancel his tour that was scheduled to make up for the tour he canceled last fall?
They were a moody, 80’s Britpop band, nothing terribly special.
Remember people in the 80’s-90’s that dressed as “goths” ? Black hair, makeup, spiked collars, that silliness? They were the kind of people who bough Smiths, and later solo Morrissey, records.
