What's the Biggest Pet Peeve Among Air Travelers?

Uncomfortable seats and sky-high airline fees are among the top complaints among air travel passengers, according to the results of a consumer survey.

In TripAdvisor’s annual air travel poll, in addition to limited legroom and exorbitant ticket prices, 2,000 respondents in the US also named unpredictable flight delays, long security lines and “other passengers” -- notably loud, crying children -- the top five pet peeves about air travel. The survey also found that more US passengers will be flying the global skies this year, with 67 percent of respondents indicating they plan to take an international flight this year, compared to 56 percent in 2012.

The same is true of domestic fights, with 91 percent of respondents saying they plan to board a flight within the US -- up from 86 percent last year.

#1 with me...Excess baggage fees! Is Southwest can fly 2 bags (up to 50 lb. eacy) for FREE so can everyone else! Most airlines are SCREWING the flying public!

No leg room and sitting arm in arm with strangers isn’t my idea of a good flight.

I know air time is expensive, but they try to put too many people in that little space. First class is 3 times the cost of regular travel, That is more than exhorbitant.
I would certainly pay extra, but not 3 times extra.

ANYONE under 6’6” has NO reason to complain. So zip it.

I hate flying midget-class. Can’t afford first-class.

Loyalty programs that are becoming less and less loyal to the flying public. There really isn’t another company that could get away with diluting its product like the airlines and expect to keep its customers, at least the honest ones that don’t try to game the system.

I don’t know why airlines do not create more business class seating. I would gladly pay 20 or 30% more for a seat made for someone of normal size.

Anyone 6’ or taller or over 200 pounds cannot possibly get reasonably comfortable.

WRONG! I’m 5’2” and it is very uncomfortable being crammed into TOO SMALL SEATS AND NO LEG ROOM. I will gladly concede that larger people are more uncomfortable, but I am uncomfortable, too.

I am dreading a trip this summer that I plan to take with two men. They are a bit overweight and I am not skinny either. But I will be squished between them.

We cannot afford the higher prices of business. We will be very uncomfortable during the flight.

I can add one. Those in seat video screens with the games that require the passenger to poke them repeatedly. That’s my back they’re poking. For hours. And hours.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and I like the Alaska Airlines program. Easy to redeem miles, easy to accrue them. One website. You make the reservations through the same system as if you were paying. You can use miles to buy discounted tickets. You get miles on both Delta and American.

They do charge for bags, which sucks.

BUMP your post, Jem.

5’4” 130 here and I almost always get a huge fatty seated next to me and half the time a non-English speaking huge fatty who brings native food on board in a paper sack. I can’t afford First Class either.

#1 for me is TSA - I hate the lines and the stupidity. #2 is the crowds and people sitting on floors.

I flew every week in the 80s and alot in the 90s I don’t remember planes being so crowded as much as they are today, and they were more profitable. I used to love flying now I dread it.

I don’t have a pet peeve because I refuse to take a plane anywhere. If I can’t drive there, I won’t go there.

I’ve been everywhere foreign I’ve ever wanted to go. This is a beautiful country from coast to coast, and there are many parts of it that I haven’t seen. Since we’re retired, and have reliable cars, we’re free to get up and go when we want to.

Retirement is good......

What's the Biggest Pet Peeve Among Air Travelers?

My favorite peeve? The thieving maggots at TSA.

DH and I do that, too. It works well.

My biggest peeve is TSA. Dreadful, wretched people!

You are probably referring to US carriers, none of which have over 3 stars. (http://www.airlinequality.com/StarRanking)/5star.htm
Fortunately, I can now fly where I want, using five star carriers, Asiana and Qatar. There are only six in the world.

My last US flight was Paris to Atlanta on Delta. That was 9 years ago. It was as expected...lousy.
The stew was snotty, and charged me several bucks, just for a Coke.

I AM willing to pay more for coach if I can get more leg room. I do pay for the premium seats when the seats are available. On a 13-hour flight, it makes a huge difference.

A few times, I have paid extra and flown business. The larger seats and leg room is wonderful!

Needing to crack a humongous fart, knowing it is advisable by the AMA...but knowing your cabin mates will not appreciate it.
