Mac Thornberry was outed as being being a punk and giving a constituent and war widow the brush off.

Rep. Max Thornberry, Texas — Republican. What a shame.

Thornberry's conduct was disgraceful.

But none of his Democrat predecessors, who had given the lady a similar runaround, were mentioned by name in that piece.

Also, it shocks me that no one - not she herself, not her family, not her representatives, no one - thought to request his military records to check.

For 68 years.

The piece speaks of the various letters she initially received, and of the letters she later wrote, to Congressmen - but this does not seem to have been a particularly dogged search on anyone's part.

Yes, there was a lack of due diligence on the part of the widow and her family as well as possibly some other politicians.

But, MSM incitements were able to do what Thornberry would not.

Thanks for posting this. What a gracious lady and a beautiful story. So glad she found out that her husband’s sacrifice had been honored.

If there was lack of due diligence IMO it was on the part of the US military. The piece starts out saying she got no immediate notification (no telegram or personal visit). Then she received conflicting information (mia, alive and returning home, kia, etc). This is shameful! She shouldn't have to be tracking down the truth. She may not have been aware of the extent to which records are kept.

I'm happy to know her husband's sacrifice has been honored by the French town where he went down. It's shameful that it wasn't honored as much by the nation and armed force he served.

I have many relatives who served in the military, including one who is MIA in VietNam. I understand the bureaucracy can seem endless and frustrating. I honor our military and don't like speaking out against them. But I think they acted shamefully in this situation if the video report is accurate.

The Hallmark Channel has a movie, The Valentine Card, that practically verbatim of this story. Betty White plays the Widow.
