My wife just got her concealed carry license - Cumberland Co, PA (Vanity)

Posted on 03/13/2013 3:23:38 PM PDT by ConservativeInPA

My wife just walked into the house all giddy. Practically jumping up and down, she sings, "Guess what I got?"

It only took four weeks.

PA is having a devil of time keeping up with background checks. I suspect county sheriffs have difficultly calling in all of the background checks. With 67 counties and new carry applications each day, the backlog must be wicked.

I recently bought a gun and I had to wait 45 minutes for a background check. The sheriffs have the same wait.

Just another reason for ZERO background checks. My wife may have needed to carry to protect herself from her radical, right-wing, gun-totting, conservative husband.

Here in Virginia a few years ago I turned in the paperwork for my wife, including her DD Form 214, and she had her card in just over a week. Santa just replaced her compact 9mm with a compact 45 ACP.

She is now happy.

My daughter got her CHP last month. Carries a compact 40 S&W.

Both of my daughters are in high school. I wish they could carry. I trust the judgement of my youngest daughter, a 15 year old, more than anyone in government. Both of my girls shoot better than me ... but not much better.

I have experienced your joy. My wife earned the nickname “Dead Eye” at her range training. She was just short of the 150,000th permit issued since Wisconsin allowed concealed carry. Her permit arrived much quicker than mine as I applied during the initial rush.

I had a three hour wait at Cabelas for a background check.

Good thing you can get a hamburger and fries at Cabelas while you wait.

My wife, Ol' Lorena, doesn't even need a gun in the kitchen. There are plenty of knives around.

It’s been quite awhile since I had to wait while purchasing something instate.

That’s the nice thing about having your concealed already.

Mine just graduated college and is back home looking for a good job (good luck in this economy). She could not carry on campus so we waited until she graduated to get her CHP. I bought her a Beretta PX4 Storm for Christmas. She loves it. She is as much a conservative as I. I am quite proud of her.

She is an excellent shot and is better with 40's and 45's than with the smaller calibers. She could not find a 45 compact that was comfortable for her so she settled with a 40 S&W that fits her perfectly.

That is a sweet pistol. My wife is shoots a Ruger LPC. She loves it. It doesn't fit my hands, and I rather having something more substantial caliber-wise. But I took the family shooting this past weekend, and talked the wife into shooting my M9. She has been hesitant to shoot anything with a bigger bang than a .22 or .380 ACP. She liked shooting the 9mm. Next step is the 1911.

Funny thing, my daughters will shoot anything. They have no fear.

If our sheriff’s office isn’t busy you can get yours while you wait. Usually ten or fifteen minutes while they type up your CWP. This is in uber-Liberal (well the west side of the Cascades that is) Washington state.

I have been surprised lately by all the talk of folks I would never suspect, talking about getting handguns and permits.

I do not discuss it normally in mixed company with folks I am not close with. But no less than five co-workers in the past month have started discussions about their buying a pistol and applying for their lifetime CCW here in IN.

I gotta be careful about some of these co-workers. They also seem pretty conservative and could be local FReepers. Whoa! :o)

There are some counties in PA that you can go in and wait. It all depends on the business process that the sheriff uses. I think most counties try to process applications at the end of the day. Before Christmas, I was buying a gun and the gun shop was telling people to purchase in the morning or early afternoon, because a mad rush on background checks at the end of the day.

Right - my last CWP took like fifteen minutes but as you said, mine was in the morning.

I can remember when my father took my baby sister out and helped her get her permit and a Baretta Tomcat .32. She was 21 and in college. My mother (66-ish) still carries a .380 and checks it in at the casino boats when she goes with her friends.

My daughter is 11 and wants to know when I'll get her own gun. I have a .22 for her and her brother (it was their great grandfather's first gun) and there is likely a .410 in her future if I can scrape together a couple nickels (or find a leprechaun).
