NEW YORK, - Passengers on a Greyhound bus traveling to New York said they were disgusted when the bus became overrun with cockroaches.

The bus was traveling from Atlantic City, N.J., to New York Friday morning when passengers began to notice the bugs crawling about, CNN reported.

Passenger Dawn Alexander told ABC News the roaches were first spotted in the front of the bus.

"Then after a while, the panic got toward the back because we all started looking around and saw roaches crawling everywhere," she said.

"We thought it was one (roach). It turned out to be a whole house full of roaches," said another passenger.

"I sat down -- roaches started crawling up on our clothes, falling down from the ceiling. Everything," said another.

Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond told CNN the bus driver acted quickly when passengers alerted him to the problem.

"He immediately pulled the bus over and radioed our dispatch office for assistance," she said. "A second bus was immediately sent to continue the trip into New York. We have spoken with each passenger and provided full refunds."

Greyhound said it was investigating how the roaches got onto the bus.

He would have been better off being an exterminator instead of an actor!

Yet one more sign of how lazy people are getting - I’m in southern Indiana and the people moving out of urban areas into rural communities due to lack of work or more likely govt entitlements - are bringing with them lice, bed bugs, and other pestilence...they don’t care to even send their kids to school wearing the proper undergarments. I’m longer flying due to TSA and the stupid disgusting people that have encountered more and more...the last flight I took - some dude got on there and thought it was perfectly find to kick off his shoes so everyone in the shuttle cabin could smell his feet...fat, lazy, non-bathing POS...public transportation is a joke anymore...I’d rather drive 12 hrs straight in my own SUV, have control over where I stop and what I eat, and know when I’m going to show up - compared to getting to the airport2 hrs before my flight - spending 40 min’s to 1 hr in TSA bullsh*t while they steal from my suitcase, and have to pay for overpriced airport food being served by whoever, and crawl onto a plane that smells - overcrowded with people doing all kinds of nasty stuff...and then either wait out on the tarmac - or wait for over 1 1/2 to get fuel - or some other flight delay - and then show up - rent a car - and get out of the other airport -— yeah, I might spend more time on the road - but it’s my comfort over time...

Anyone who knows anything about roaches knows that, if you see ONE, a thousand are hiding in the crevices close by. That ONE is the scout.

Dumb Yankees. :)

Here in the south/southwest, we name'm so we can keep'm straight and know who's who.

"A second bus was immediately sent to continue the trip into New York. ..."

Unless the passengers AND luggage were decontaminated before loading onto the 2nd bus, many of the little critters were carried onto the 2nd bus.

German cockroach, Blattella germanica, but they really originated in Africa.

They don't flourish outdoors, they are a domestic critter so someone probably had luggage infested with them.

Back in my pest controller days I saw infestations of biblical proportions, tablecloths completely covered where they hung over the edge, pictures on walls covering rectangles of roaches and washing machines plugged solid with them.

Parking was sparse and expensive in the city where I attended my first college. A girl I was going with convinced me to try taking the bus from our rural town into the city for classes.

I don’t think it lasted two weeks. Not only was I late for classes, but my fellow passengers were like the guy you described on the plane. Some people acted like the bus was their living room or personal chauffeur service (and I strongly suspected some thought it was their bathroom). Then there was the general air of hostility. That was twenty years ago. I can’t imagine what it is like now.

That lesson taught me the value of one’s own car. Be careful with it, maintain it, be thankful for it.
