When you look at that picture. then remember what he looked like at the height of his career, it’s obvious that the steroids have taken their toll. It brings to mind Lyle Alzado in his final days.

Yep. When I was looking for that picture, I saw numerous other pictures from earlier in his career, and it is clear that his body has deteriorated substantially.
I would very much like to know though what specifically happened to his hands and is that also related to steroid abuse. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything like that.
Wow. Didn’t Miss Elizabeth die of a drug overdose while she was dating him? I suspect the issue is more than just steroids.
I had a classmate in jr high who used to babysit for Ric Flair’s kids in Charlotte, NC. I wonder if she’ll see this.
Pro wrestling may be the toughest business there is. A LOT of wrestlers don’t make it to 40. Between injuries (very real) drugs, and painkillers. It is a tough business.
I am not certain what happened to Elizabeth, drug overdose is cited.
However, I did find this which seems to explain his unusual appearance:
On October 19, 2007 Lex Luger suffered a nerve impingement in his neck that led to temporary paralysis. He was at Stanford Hospital in stable condition. Luger underwent intravenous antibiotic treatment and was expected to make a full recovery.[43]
Luger issued a statement thanking all of his fans for their continued support. He mentions that doctors are puzzled how this happened, and are not sure if the damage done is permanent. He continues to say that life is fragile, and not to take it for granted.[44]
Nearly a month after his “spinal stroke”, Luger was finally transferred from California to an Atlanta hospital. Luger still was in a quadriplegic state, having no movement in either his arms or legs. Luger was scheduled to have hip replacement surgery the week before, had it not been for the stroke. Doctors had told him that they would be amazed if he was able to walk without the hip replacement surgery.[45]
Despite regaining some feeling and movement, Luger still remains paralyzed. [46]
Nikita Koloff appeared on the wrestling-radio.com online show on Wednesday night and gave an update on Lex Luger. He said he’s traveled twice recently to see Luger. He said Luger is still in a wheelchair after the San Francisco wrestling convention fiasco, and that for a long time, he was paralyzed from the neck down. After Luger spent a week at Stanford Hospital, tests determined nothing. He was sent to the Atlanta Rehab Center where their testing also came back with no answers. According to Koloff, “Lex said his spinal column short circuited,” but lately he’s been making “remarkable improvement.” According to Koloff, Luger can lift his legs and move his torso, and can hold a can in his hand. Koloff said Luger told him, “I’ve had 49 good years with these legs, and if I never walk again, I’ll be the best wheelchairer for Jesus, you’ve ever seen.”
