Vet Wants to Legalize Pot for Dogs

Polls show the majority of Americans support legalizing marijuana, but should dogs have it too? It sounds crackpot, but Veterinarian Doug Kramer thinks that the THC in marijuana could help dogs and other pets with painful conditions that don't respond to other treatments. VICE chatted with Kramer about his pot-for-pets campaign.

"A client first brought it to my attention," Kramer told VICE. "She had a pet that was not responding well to any of the pain medications or the steroids that we were giving it, and she wanted to talk about getting medical marijuana."

Some vets dismissed the idea, but Kramer was open to trying it.

Our poor rescue pup isn’t helped that much by Benadryl either. He’s our latest rescue and I was dismayed by how uncomfortable he was last summer. We had to finally use several courses of predisone after everything else failed. I’m dreading the upcoming summer for him.

Word of advice—don’t use the baking powder solution to relieve itching on a grey/black dog. It worked, somewhat, but it turned his fur color to tan/brown where it was sprayed.

To be fair.... kitties have catnip. An herb/grass that makes them feel good. Doggies need an equivalent. LOL!

In the late 70s I had a cat with a chronic, debilitating condition. He would sit in front of me on the floor while I blew smoke in his face. When he’d had enough, he would go bounding off, like he hadn’t a pain in the world. Then he would come back, sit in front of me, but with his back to me, and we would listen to music. Except for his ears, which would turn left and right depending on what was coming out of the speakers, there was no movement.
He also loved to be wrapped in towels hot out of the dryer.
I finally had to put him down. I never had a better cat.
I see no problem with this.
I haven’t smoked since 1984. It was horrible, and you couldn’t get me to smoke the stuff again. But it was great for my cat.
