The legacy of the “Scottsboro Boys” is secure: The nine black teens were wrongly convicted more than 80 years ago in one of America’s most infamous racial tragedies. Alabama is now moving to repair its own legacy, and correct past injustices, with a bill to allow posthumous pardons for the group.
On Thursday, the state House voted 103-0 in favor of legislation setting up a procedure to pardon the teens, who were falsely accused of rape by two white women in 1931. The Senate had passed the bill earlier, 29-0. Gov. Robert Bentley has indicated he will sign it. “This is great for Alabama. It was long overdue,” said Democratic state Rep. Laura Hall of Huntsville, who sponsored the bill in the House.

Of course they do. But the evidence is pretty strong in this case that these particular guys didn’t.
I'm just pointing out that it's meaningless.
And why is giving a guy the Medal of Honor 60 years after he’s dead not meaningless?
It's a worthy purpose - the VRA has been interpreted to mean that Southern states cannot impose any ID requirement for voting, thereby opening the door to votes by non-citizens. Showing progress on past racial iniquities is a good way of dispelling the idea that Jim Crow is alive and well in Alabama. I believe it's still being argued in the Supreme Court. We'll see how that goes. It's kind of amusing how long-extinct Jim Crow laws are now being used by liberals as a means to help non-citizens vote.
I don't have a problem dropping the geographic restrictions on the Voting Rights Act and making all states comply with the same requirements the Southern states have had to. But again, if that's the reason for this bill then that moves it beyond the meaningless gesture to an act of hypocrisy. Didn't do it because it was the right thing to do but because it might get them some benefit.
I'd say being falsely accused of rape has much more negative consequences for the person involved than not getting a Medal of Honor.
The irony is that 10 times more such incidents of what today is called “wilding” are happening today. Bands of young black men going on vicious rampages against just about anyone are common.
Instead of arresting them, some citizen will eventually be armed and a good enough shot to execute a whole bunch of them on the spot. And of course, the usual suspects will damn him for defending his life.

I’d do away with the voting rights act altogether. It may have had its place at one time but that time has long passed. We’ve got a “must ask” ID requirement in Michigan. Its not perfect but it does help.
Bottom line is; it makes no difference whether they were black, white, yellow, or purple. If there is proof they didn’t commit the crime, they should be exonerated. I’m sure their relatives will find some peace in that.
.....and sue for damages. Mark my words, somebody is going to try to make a buck out of this.

The Scottsboro boys were the most over-represented defendents in history.

No, they weren’t guilty. One of the alleged victims admitted that neither of them had been raped.
