A corporate responsibility advisory committee at Brown University reportedly is recommending that the Ivy League school withdraw its investments in 15 of America’s largest coal companies.

The divestment campaign began last October, when a student group, called the Brown Divest Coal Campaign, asked the university to stop investing in coal.

“We believe that our university should not be profiting from an industry as dangerous and outdated as coal, which devastates human health and the environment at each step in its life cycle,” the group says on its website. …

I recommend that the members of this “advisory committee” be induced to work in coal mines the rest of their lives.

All money is dirty. Brown University should just divest itself of all of it.

Yup. Including any precious metals they may have in their possession.

Who cares? The coal industry is not going to miss these idiots or their money.

That’s for sure. But Brown and their “advisory committee” will certainly miss coal power when the lights go out due to the price of electricity “necessarily skyrocket(ing)” . . .

I wonder if any of Brown University’s buildings are powered by coal or oil? Or are they all powered by wind and solar?

The smug sons/daughters of the 1% sure will feel good about themselves hoping to shut down an industry that still provides good paying jobs for the working blokes in Appalachia and other “fly over” country.
I would imagine these same fools go around moaning about “inequality” and “poverty”.

If you’re a bright kid from West Virginia and your father is a coal miner, forget about being accepted at Brown.

Add Brown to the list of universities whose graduate’s resumes (should I ever receive one) will go directly in the trash.

Universities are naturally leftist propoganda centers, but for places like Vassar, Tufts and Brown, it seems the leftists there are self-selecting.

I would divest from coal myself, only because natural gas is stomping the market at one end while the communists squeeze it from the other end.

After all, many members in Congress hold natural gas stocks. Not that it would influence the fine upstanding Congress critters because they are so honest and such.

Just sayin...

Brown is in Rhode Island. They get essentially all of their power from Natural Gas.

Their heating plant mostly burns Natural Gas with some oil used.
