Burglary suspect finds time to feed the dog

EAST WENATCHEE — Residents of a house in the 600 block of Second Street Northeast were surprised to come home Saturday night and find a strange man in their kitchen.

“He was standing there with the refrigerator door open and feeding their dog some pudding,” said Dan Reierson, assistant chief with the East Wenatchee Police Department.

The suspect told the couple that he was looking for a man to kill, but the residents told him that person did not live there, Reierson said. The suspect sat for a brief time in a rocking chair in the living room, then walked out the front door. The suspect called to the dog, the dog followed him and they both walked away from the house.

The residents reported the incident to the RiverCom dispatch center at 8:20 p.m.

During the time the suspect was inside, the residents learned his name, Reierson said. Officers arrested the suspect at his residence, in the 6000 block of Grover Street, a short time later.

Jason L. McDaniel, 38, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary. Reierson said he is suspected of entering the residence through a basement window, which was broken out.

The dog was not found at the suspect’s residence and remains missing. Buddy is a black, lab-pitbull mix with a white stripe down its chest. Anyone with information on Buddy can call the police department at 884-9511.

You expect to comment about the dog, which is bad enough. But this is bizarre - people come in and just start conversing with potential killer nutcase and let him walk out the door? Sits in the rocker conversing with them?

What the hell kind of people are these? They couldn’t maybe accost this fool and pin him down?

Blame the Lab in the dog .... my dog would do the same. Doesn't even need to be food...a tennis ball will do.

I have a strong suspicion that we don’t have all the facts.

[the story reeks, IMO]

LOL! My 5 lb yorkie thinks he can take on any sized dog. If he was 50 lbs though, he'd still love people too much to be a good guard dog.

My bull-mastiff “Fury” was visiting her mother at my brother's house where she was born.

My sister-in-law saw the mailman come up to the fence to deposit the mail in the box. He said “Oh, there are two of you. Well here is a treat for you - and a pet” to the mother “and here is a treat for you - and ... AHHHHH” as he pulled his arm back from Fury.

Fury was like “thanks for the treat, but don't go putting your arm in MY yard!”.

Another time a neighbor complained that Fury bit him. “She was out?”. “No. I reached into the fence to pet her.”

Yeah. Don't do that.

Fury would have eaten the pudding - then eaten a piece of burglar.

I have actually had to post signs explaining the concept of “fence” and “gate” to apparent morons.

Both of them serve a dual purpose; keeping my dogs *in* and safe and keeping interlopers *out* and safe.

There’s still a sign on the gate that says “PLEASE CLOSE THE GATE” because some people can’t seem to wrap their head around that.

“Dumb” dogs understand personal boundary lines but some folks can’t manage.

What a world.
