Problems with Internet Explorer

Posted on 04/13/2013 5:22:49 AM PDT by quintr

Am having trouble with Internet Explorer. Is anyone else experience problems with this browser. Return key won't work when typing emails and some attachments won't download with a note that there's a problem with IE. Any suggestions?

If you've got a 64-bit OS, I suggest Mozilla's Waterfox.

switched to Firefox and NEVER looked back!

Fireflop has their own problems, especially with their rapid release insanity.

Like an add-on/extension? Don't get too used to it, as the developer might get tired of the frequent FF updates and quit updating the extension -- making it obsolete and incompatible with future FF releases.

I have FF 15. I quit upgrading when FF and Adobe Flash got where they would fight each other. I found a version of Flash that would work with FF15 and stopped upgrading both.

Now, FF 20 is out. With that release, a program that creates security tunnels between FF and specific websites (banks, etc) quit working with FF 15. If I want to upgrade FF15 to FF20, I lose several extensions that are no longer updated by their developers. Rock - hard place.

As much as I like FF, I am about ready to dump it. I may have to as FF15 will eventually become unusable on new media and secure websites. By then, FF 25 or FF 30 will probably out and will be incompatible with Windows 7 [/s].

Try the reboot first.

Sometimes, another program will interfere with the keyboard and its interaction with web posting boxes. Usually, a reboot will clear the problem.

I’ve got Chrome, Firefox, Camino and Opera ready. When one starts messing up I switch browsers. If there’s a problem with IE, they’ll get it fixed soon enough.

As a a matter of fact, my Linux distribution is 64 bit. I think I'll give it a try.

I'm not a fan of Google Corp., but Chrome is by far the best browser I've ever used.

Nevermind. It’s Windows only. Boo.

Oh, well. Chrome is still great.

Yes. IE10 is buggy with Win7. I immediately uninstalled it last week after similar problems with my email.

Install Chrome.

Chrome is a Google product, isn't it? No thanks.

Windows is dying.

Look at the subject being discussed. It's about Internet Explorer, not Windows.

But, I gather you just had to put in another attack against Windows in every thread dealing with anything from Microsoft.

BTW, Windows is still the number one OS with desktops and laptops and ultrabooks. Windows 8 is meeting with some resistance, but then, most people are still happy with Windows 7 and XP and see no big need to upgrade to the newer version of Windows.

Plus, in a rotten economy, not too many people are going to be spending some $700 or more on a new PC, and they'll use whatever "disposable" income they have on the cheaper tablets.

Internet Explorer was so bad and unusable that I went back to Firefox. I got tired of not being able to use IE and try to figure out what was wrong and fix the piece of junk. XP was ok until a virus destroyed it. This computer had the windows virus vista on it. It loves to freeze up and the directions to fix it do not work. I have to have a virus program running most of the time looking for a trojan that visits me every day. I got a new computer that had windows 8 and was rudely treated by the commuter and windows programs. Windows is dying, IE is dying, Vista is dying and I can't say anything good about Windows 8.

Yes, I don’t like Google. But I despise Microsoft. In case you haven’t noticed, there aren’t many good guys in the internet biz. I could switch to something else, but chances are high that it will also be making an evil bastard tons of money, too.

When someone decent comes up with an equal or better product, I’ll switch.

Your hate for all things Microsoft is already on record.

ON the other hand, I’m one of those that is pretty happy and trouble-free when it comes to my usage of Windows (any version) and IE.

Trojans and spyware and viruses are things that don’t bother my computer much, and when they do try to invade my computers, they’re caught by IE and my anti-malware software. Perhaps you need to try harder in making your computers “worry-free”. Nothing is going to guarantee that computers are completely worry-free, but, the basic precautions should be enough to keep you out of trouble.

I use FF and IE, and once in a while, Opera. But, I keep coming back to IE, because, it’s still the most secure browser and the fastest around. That’s been confirmed by many security gurus and by benchmarks that tested the more popular browsers.

The one browser which I will never trust, is Chrome, where it’s mere existence spells spyware. All things from Google are spyware, and I value my privacy and my personal data.

I just tried to download waterfox and get the error message that it is not a proper 32 bit file. The stupid computer can't even see that it is a 64 bit computer.

Vacuum out your keyboard or shake it upside down to get rid of the dirt in it.
