Do we even know that the “man in the crowd” photo is really from this year’s Marathon? There have been several hoax “Boston Maraton” photos circulating on Facebook, including one of a young girl running in a race that was later shown to be from a different event entirely.
He’s probably lying in the hospital with his arm and leg blown off.
I don’t care what color the perp is, as long as they catch the bast*rd!
He is not a skinhead, no Nazi markings visible. Just a father waiting for his son/daughter to finish the race and holding their backpack.
If he had a towel on his head, then it would be a definite clue.

Salon has an article up where they're just begging for this to be a white guy. It's like they want "knock em down a notch" for some reason. What the Hell have white people ever done to deserve this sort of unmitigated derision?
At this stage I suspect more of the FBI seeding false direction such as finding a gold nugget on a golf course such as this being the perp.

You have a very very strong motivation to get a white person established now while the branding irons are hot so to speak.
With 20-30lbs of bomb in that bag, it'd be sagging big time, and it's readily apparent in the largest of the photos in that collage that it's NOT.
Look at the profile of the fabric along the top of the bag .. it would be stretched downward from the strain.

The backpack doesn’t appear to be sagging as if something heavy were in it.

Well....not for nothing but my 21 years in the military tells me that if that was the bag that contained the bomb there wouldn’t be all THAT much of it left......
Low velocity explosions (black powder) tend to tear / rip apart. That is why they make rather poor pipe bombs. Easy to set off but they are not fast enough to shatter the pipe case. The cases tend to stretch and then rip. The force of the explosion traveling the path of least resistance.
Now something made out of a high velocity explosive (TNT, nitroglycerin, etc) will “powder” or “shatter” the pipe casing adding their fragments to the damage spray. The damage spray tends to travel in all directions.
