To break the monotony of the media rushing to make fools of themselves over the Marathon bombing story I thought I'd bring up a subject that got me thinking earlier today while listening to a classic rock station instead of my usual talk show selection.
I lived through the 70's explosion of hard rock music and although some of it still gets me rocking in my own geriatric way. I thought I'd ask if anyone here had bands that were popular that they never liked, or/and still don't care to hear.
If I meet a guy these days that is into ‘Kansas’ I immediately strike him from The Dating List, LOL!
Do you like ELO? Man, I totally loved them. I think it was the beautiful orchestrations more than anything.

Loved me some ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ back in the day, too! Most of the popular tunes were written by WOMEN. ;)

I’d PAY to listen to Natalie read the phone book!
Sexy. Artsy. Totally under-rated artist!

Nazareth needs to be taken behind the woodshed for remaking THIS classic!
WHY can’t we just live on in our adolescent pain?
Not a drummer so I don’t have your insight but one of the reasons I like Band of Gypsies is precisely Buddy Miles’s drum playing! His playing was simpler in a good way, with less going on to distract from the groove. He was more like a Motown drummer than a jazz drummer.
Good move on the Kansas music :)
I was in college when ELO was big and really enjoyed their music. They had a unique sound that was quite different than the prevailing rock bands at the time.
I grew up on a farm in North Dakota and listened to literally thousands of hours of music on the tractor radio. I grew to intensely dislike songs that I didn’t like. Was on a tractor for sometimes 10 hours a day and they would play popular songs every 4 hours or so. It’s great if you like the song, but maddening if you don’t. Right now I’m getting kind of tired of classic rock but usually just need a break from it to make it sound good again.
Even though I know the river wide I go out every evening and stand one the shore, trying to make it to the other side so I can finalally find what I’ve been looking for.
I hear ya.
I switched from classic rock/country to talk radio.
But it started making me crazy.
So now, I listen to the “sounds of silence” (with a little Levin occasionally.)
I am a horrible speller, by the way. Someone shoot me.
Thank you for my New Word Of The Day: "nidus" meaning nest, place from where something germinates and develops.
Weird, it's apparently pronounced as if it were "nay-dus".
It was, it was the summer of '69. My bad...memory...
Now I spend too much time dabbling in the markets. Made about 1,200 in my first trade in about 2 months. Then I turned around and gave back half of it on 3 trades that have not worked out too well so far. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, though not all is lost yet. Two of my stocks made a small rally on Friday.
Funny that you mentioned Vanilla Fudge. Their first album was maybe the greatest collections of covers ever made. Then Bogert and Appice teamed up with Jeff Beck to make a land mark album that I think was one of the real greats even though it isn’t remembered by many.
Jethro Tull is up there just a tier below The Beatles. Ian Anderson has continued for all these years exploring new styles, rewriting older music to fit classical styles and of course running through new musicians like a drunk w a six pack. Far too many bands not only play their same hits over and over, they play them the same way year after year. The Stones, Springsteen, etal offer no reason not to just stay at home and play their records.
I thought Rush had a female lead singer until a few months ago.
Queen is as talented a band there’s been.
Actually, Springstein does continue recording, doesn’t he? As does a real oldie but goodie act Dion DiMucci. Mick Jagger complained in a recent interview that the public doesn’t want to hear anything new, and that’s the reason why they won’t go in the studio. Pity.
Perhaps. But the mopheads had some very good songs.
Well, sure he records but the only difference from one album to the other is whether his guitar is plugged in or not.
