LOS ANGELES A Louisiana-born beauty with blond locks and a heart-shaped face, Reese Witherspoon, 37, has been considered an all-American sweetheart for years, winning over audiences with her performances in movies from "The Man in the Moon" to "Legally Blonde" to "Walk the Line." But given her arrest for disorderly conduct on Friday -- and how she treated a cop just trying to do his job -- has the Oscar-winner plunged off her pedastal?
Witherspoon was handcuffed and taken to the local police station after cops spotted her and her agent-husband Jim Toth's silver Ford Fusion weaving in and out of lanes. As Toth was given a Breathalyzer test and subsequently arrested for DUI -- reportedly blowing a .139 -- Witherspoon allegedly went on a rude rampage that involved pulling the celebrity card.
"Do you know my name?" she is said to have told authorities. "You're about to find out who I am... You are going to be on national news."
True. But what she failed to realize is that she would be, too, as she was arrested of disorderly conduct.
"Reese Witherspoons arrest is a blight on her brand and something which will have an impact on her career. While she may not face serious criminal charges, in the court of public opinion, the actress who was known as Americas sweetheart can face serious backlash from fans," crisis management expert and CEO of 5WPR, Ronn Torossian, told FOX411's Pop Tarts column. "DUI is an ugly crime. And pulling the Hollywood card is something which will haunt her along with the rest, because it smacks of arrogance and disrespect."
The big problem is Witherspoon has herself publicly claimed the good girl mantle in the past.

Amazing what a trowel of spackle will do for a girl.
I’m guessing it was actually an Aston-Martin Rapide. A lot of people can’t tell it from a new Ford Fusion.
President Barack Obama attracted major star power for a mid-week visit to Los Angeles, drawing out A-listers such as Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon to a fundraising event in Beverly Hills. The president arrived at LAX shortly before 5 p.m., whisked off to address the LGBT Leadership Council at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, an event hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
How you feel now about America’s sweetheart? Hollywood is a major piece in the Obama puzzle. Their sex, drugs, abortion, LGBT, socialist agendas are why the Muslim is reeking terror on this country right now. Screw her.
Will she ask Obama to get her out of it, like Amanda Bynes tried to do?
She was a little drunk, shot her mouth off and has since apologized profusely. Let it go.
Agreed...I've been in her shoes and had to apologize for saying something stupid while under the influence. Give her a break.
I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and Im very sorry for my behavior.
That's a good apology for what she did and, at least for me, its enough to let this go.
i’m not going to judge her on one high stress situation trying to save her husband.
I suppose she can be forgiven for getting drunk and apologizing. But her worship and support for Barack Obama is NOT.
“Even Oscar-winning movie stars forget their lines sometimes, and Reese Witherspoon told Entertainment Weekly that meeting President Obama left her absolutely tongue tied. Touring the White House with ‘How Do You Know,’ co-star Paul Rudd, Witherspoon got the call: the President wants to see you. “We went to the Oval Office, and there was Hillary Clinton having a meeting with Joe Biden. It was insane,” she told EW. “Then Obama came out and he turned to Paul and said, ‘I loved you in I Love You, Man.’ I grabbed Paul and I was like, ‘Are you freaking out right now?’ He’s like, ‘I’m freaking out!’”
I am SO glad I never did anything while under the influence of which I later felt embarassed. /s
Her dad was U.S. Army Reserve.
Hey, I didn’t say she was perfect :>)
Couldn’t they afford a driver?
Extra points for “money where mouth is” environmentalism, also not as likely a target for carjack kidnappers. Negative points for drunk driving and “do you know who I am”.
Give ‘er thirty days in the slammer and 100 hours community service.
You’d think when your livelihood is so dependent on public opinion more celebrities would protect their image like their credit rating.
A DUI for her agent is nothing...5K or less in fines and they’re on their way. The financial damage she did to both of them here will be hard to quantify, but I bet you it makes 5K look like a grain in a sandstorm.
When you're called 'America's sweetheart' and paid millions for pretending to be someone else and saying words written by others, it doesn't take long to consider yourself more important than anyone else. She did offer a decent apology but one has to wonder if it was more PR than sincerity. After all, Reese Witherspoon is an actress.
The prevailing opinion here is you don’t get special rights because you’re a celebrity. Fine. But the flipside should be true, too: you shouldn’t get fewer rights because you’re a celebrity.
The arrest report documents nothing more than that the cop arrested her for talking. And for being angry that her husband was being arrested.
There is no such offense as “back-talking,” unless you’re five years old in a heated discussion with your parents, or you’re a slave taking issue with your owner.
You’re allowed to disagree with a cop. You’re allowed to criticize a cop. He’s just a government worker who works for the public — he’s not a soldier, and he’s not due any more respect than the guy who works at the DMV.
She should sue for false arrest.
A guy who works for the DMV doesn’t risk his life and limb every day.
“A guy who works for the DMV doesnt risk his life and limb every day.”
Cops aren’t even in the top ten most dangerous jobs in the U.S.
You’re much less likely to make it home every night if you’re coal miner or a farmer. So I guess you’re not allowed to “back-talk” them, either.
