It did look like the baby was trying to speak dog and the dog was trying to speak baby.

I once had a neighbor who had a new dog and a new baby at the same time. After the dog taught the baby how to attack stray socks Mom decided to find the kid some human playmates.

Just keep the lil girl away from Barbeque sauce when she’s around the dog...

We had a 90# red dobie when our daughter was born. Several family members were uncomfortable about Obi being around our baby. He became totally devoted to her and followed her everywhere as she grew up. I used to play “monster” with her where I would act like Frankenstein and chase her around. She loved it but the dog didn’t. He positioned himself between us one time, folded his ears back, gave me a “smile” and let me know that he didn’t like this game. I got the message. He was a great dog.

A lot of Dobe owners who then have kids run into the “my baby!” syndrome with their dogs.

There’s lots of YouTubes of Dobermanns who have stationed themselves by the cribs of their new wards.

My two worship me alone...until they encounter children.

I could drop dead and they wouldn’t even notice until the parents take their kids elsewhere.

Probably something genetically imprinted/programmed from the very old “shepherd” breeds used in their creation long ago.

Every one I’ve ever had was a fiend for kids.

Anybody who has kids and Dobes never needs to worry about kidnappers, anyway.

Wish I’d videoed Halla’s encounter with the neighbor’s granddaughters the other day.

Normally, she’s a jumping, pouncing little menace to society but she stood *so* still while the two little toddlers hugged and loved on her.

(She doesn’t like being hugged at all but totally froze while they squeezed her neck and kissed her face...it flipped me out)

When their dad walked away with them, she nearly pulled my arm off trying to follow..

Five minutes later, we were back in our own yard and she was cheerfully bumping and pummeling as usual.

Somehow, they just know to be gentle with fragile things.

It’s kinda spooky, really.

The neighbor babysits a little boy who runs to the fence when he sees my dogs out.

They happily clean off the ubiquitous pancake syrup, ketchup and other food remnants he wears on his face, shirt and hands.

It makes him giggle hysterically.

:)

As long as they didn’t teach you hygiene, you’ll be fine.

That is one smart dog!

(But the giggling baby has Halla frantically searching the room, now)

My granddaughter found a pit puppy who was nearly dead. She woke up ever hour or so to give her medicine. The dog is a few years old now and takes care of my great granddaughter who is now 5, or did when she was small. No one better not go anywhere near my great granddaughter. The dog is a great playmate for her. If pits are raised with love, they will return it. My granddaughter has a way with all animals.
