Whether you think GMO foods are a threat to health or not, they should be labeled so that those who care can make the choice.

Foods need to be labeled GMO? Just about everything you eat has been genetically modified at some point in time. Do you want that labeled on everything you buy? Seems meaningless to me, but I'm sure you have your emotions,...er, I mean reasons.

The FDA only requires labeling if a food raises questions related to nutrition or safe use. People who understand the science involved are still waiting for those legitimate questions about the differing nutritional content and safety of GMO food. There's a lot of noise, but no there, there.

Beyond that though, labeling mandates based solely on an alleged consumers’ ‘right to know,’ rather than on a product’s measurable characteristics, is in violation of the Constitution.

You are not allowed to demonize a product, or to create fear about a product, unless you can prove that there is a problem with the nutrition or safety of that product. But that's exactly what you want to do even though you have absolutely nothing to support you. Thank goodness more rational people are in charge.

I'm doing fine and I'm educated in my choices" that to me says self focused. God says be God focused and help our neighbors. Many of our neighbors are lost - caught up in media hype about what "food" is.

Here's a suggestion: buy your neighbors a subscription to health news or whatever magazine suits your style. What we don't need is your food judgements imposed on everyone.

I’m not the one fretting.

I packed the food because I realize some nutrition is better then none.

My concern about our food no longer being simply the way it was designed to be, is not silly or unfounded.

I just wondered the source of the prodcuts as I packed them and the quality and wondered were we supplying foods that may sustain life but slowly snuff it another way.

I would like to help people in ways that is not hindering them in others. IE: save their life today so they are sick with some illness not too far down the road.

I answer to God. We all are gonna die of some thing. I don’t fear death, it seems you do?

There are other options for your childrens schooling if you don’t like what their current school teaches.

my food judgements? imposed?

I just want to know what’s in the box - everything from growing to packaging. then I can make an informed decision.

Just as I stated above about Breyer’s “all natural” ice cream changing to breyers frozen desert since they now add corn syrup. They informed me on the box, I asked them questions and was able to adjust my purchsaing as I saw needed.

How is it in the best interests of a corporation to kill off paying customers?

It's not. No one thing is killing anyone off. It's accumulations of toxins that is at issue. Monsanto, Merk, Phizer, Big Corn, et al are all contributors to ill health in America. I understand they are all trying to make a buck and have no beef with that. But when they do it at the expense of un-informed customers while knowingly understanding what they do is a net negative, then it is objectively wrong because they are perpetrating fraud upon others. Certainly folks can educate themselves and buy locally, organic, etc. However, when you have the government and big companies telling you "this is good for you" when it isn't, it's a tough row to hoe to have true health (and by that I mainly mean immuno-health). Heck even the "trusted experts" are dead wrong on many health related issues. You probably know more about nutrition than your MD since he probably took just one class in med school on nutrition.

Take for example my recent visit to Disney's Magic Kingdom. Easily 75% of the people there were at least chubby. A good 50% were obese with a good chunk (pun intended) of them morbidly obese. My knee-jerk reaction is to think all these people are lazy and slothish. And as we all know obesity can impose a bevy of health issues under the surface. But, upon reflection, I tend to lean towards their obesity not being completely their fault. Folks are bombarded with incorrect information on a daily basis. For example saturated fat is bad for you, or calories in equal calories out. Both supposedly common knowledge facts are patently false. It's this type of agenda driven information that is killing Americans. Don't get me started on the Cancer Industry.

"So, pal, what's the answer?", you might ask. The answer is to eat fundamentally just as you would think fundamentally concerning philosophy. Try to eat as little sugar as you can "see" because there's a lot more lurking out there than you may be aware of - same with grains. People have to also realize that what they put ON their skin is just about the same as eating it. Folks need to ask themselves "would I eat that" before they slather this or that thing on their skin. Eating well is about moderate intake of foods from the animal, plant, insect, algae, and fungus kingdoms. It's not too terribly difficult to understand God's intention for us to eat a bit of everything.

thank you numberonepal - your wording is better then mine.

Over my almost 20 years a massage therapist I’ve see numerous people with structural and internal and even emotion/mind issues all in part due to food and other life sustaining and or lifestyle choices.

I’ve seen folks who chose to get organs removed rather than try doing a cleanse and changing their eating. folks get joint replacements rather than make changes to try to reduce some weight on those joints or stretching I demonstrated that would help them at home to reduce the tension of ligaments from over exercising and not need massage etc or live in pain - yes over exercise is a growing problem to - leading to muscle tears and joint issues. More health care dollars “needed” for over doing a supposed “good thing” like exercise.

I agree it’s hard to change some habits, and we are all entitled to our choices but when personal choices lead to increase in my taxes or insurance, which I read may likely go up even more, it’s hard to just sit by and do nothing.

I just want to know what’s in the box - everything from growing to packaging. then I can make an informed decision.

That's easy, find a group of like-minded people on the internet and use community-sourced information.

They informed me on the box,

There's no reason for the government to require any information on the box because that will just spur bribes of politicians by rent-seeking corporations. You can't fix that by your dinky protest and calls to your politician. What needs to happen is ending the government monopoly on "food safety" and nutrition that they do such a terrible job at.

You can't fix political corruption in overreaching, oversized government by making it bigger.

When no one has the answer to the important questions, you know that the answers are not good. We already know that the pesticides and fungicides eventually work their way into the drinking water because rural farmland usually has their own wells. Round-up may not be as harmful as some of the other pesticides that are sprayed on the crops. I don’t know about that, either.

I’ll never understand why someone would endure chemo rather than simply stop eating sugar. I’ve been inside a “Cancer Center” that had an Icee machine in it. It contained your regular variety of Cherry and Coke Icee. I mean really people? You encourage cancer patients to eat sugar?

I actually did ask a doctor that very question. He said (in that “I’m better than you” doctor way) the chemo patients like something cold and sweet because everything else tastes bad. My disgust at the irony was evident on my face. Doctors are now salespeople for the drug companies - plain and simple. Doctors now treat - not heal.

Tasmanians Devils get cancer - they don't eat sugar. If not eating sugar was a cure for cancer - why do so many Tasmanian Devils die of cancer?

My concern about our food no longer being simply the way it was designed to be

We've been "designing" our food for thousands of years. Since the first farmer saved the largest seeds to plant next year.

is not silly or unfounded.

It is both.

wondered were we supplying foods that may sustain life but slowly snuff it another way.

Must be why our life span keeps increasing. LOL!

I’m not asking the government to require labeling. I’d like business to understand their various customer needs and accomodate or losethose customers - again as I stated in my recent situation with Breyer’s ice cream now “frozen desert”. They changed some thing, I verified through the company they were indeed adding corn syrup to the flavors I liked, so I no longer buy that brand. I’d like business to play fair and say what’s in the box they are trying to get me to buy. Just as people with severe allergies can have sudden death from ingestion of a ingredient - the rest of us can be subject to slower death from ingestion of chemicals not listed or so bizarely listed you can’t exactly tell what it is. Sure one can research the heck out of each and every item - but a Good Business would try to accomodate customers they want to sell to, not make things harder for them.

I’m not wanting bigger governemt as you think I am. You quickly judged me and You are Wrong. It seems you labeled me in your mind due to the article I posted, not who I am.

My understanding of the GMO protests is about monsanto and it’s actions toward people. Monsanto should not need or accept government covering it’s butt with protections. If it were a truthful company it would distance itself from govt protection, do right by it’s products, or suffer consequence by the actions of more people avoiding their products.

I don’t beleive I’ve ever said I wanted govermnemt to tell them what to do. Do you like to make stuff up just to have debate or try to be right?

wow! I can appreciate they want some thing cold and sweet, but I’m with you, flavored syrup over ice is not even close to best option for folks battling cancer. Makes me sad doctors or nutritonists don’t suggest blended fruits - even though it’s still a form of sugar it’s at least got nutrients and not so harsh to the body.

Toddster

our life span may be increasing in some groups of people, but it seems many groups are becoming less healthy and many individuals still senslessly dieing young due to food/beverage choices.

It’s easy to have the it won’t happen to me attitude, and just concern yourself with yourself. My profession has been caring for others, trying to educate them about how their body works and why if they keep going against it it will lead to illness, sorry if you don’t agree with my wanting to help or educate people about maintaining healthier bodies for hopefully longer life.

How can you be so sure are life span is increasing?

somebody told you? and you believed them why? What is life span? does it take into account all sorst of deaths or only certain ones?
