Weary travelers looking to catch a nap inside an airport can rarely escape the noise and bustle of the terminal. But one airport has a unique, egg-shaped solution.
This week, Abu Dhabi International Airport unveiled cocoonlike sleeping chambers inside one of its terminals. The 10 GoSleep pods are chairs that convert into flat beds and feature a sliding shade that isolates the occupant from noise, light and crowds.
The GoSleep pods, designed in Finland, cost about $12.25 per hour of use.
Thirty-five additional pods will be installed later this year with upgrades, including Web access, secure storage for luggage and other valuables, and power ports to charge laptops, mobile telephones and other devices

I know what you mean. You may end up laying in somebody’s Abu Dhabi Dew.
You Win The Raffle!!!!
That's funny right there
Another of the myriad reasons to love this place
They will NEVER have those in San Francisco.
Or, if they do, they will soon be discarded. Cuz they would HAVE to be.
Abu Dhabi Dew
Excellent! :-)
(no similarity to Yabba Dabba Doo)
Funny thing though, they still cannot locate the test engineer, Mr. vanWinkle.
You just made my Black Russian come out of my nose!!
See links to stories about “pod” hotel rooms in Manhattan. Brrr. Think of the bedbugs!
A good friend of mine used to be a flight attendant on pilgrimage charter flights to Mecca. She said the airline had to completed tear out and discard the complete cabin (seats, carpeting, wall coverings),after the pilgimages, because the whole plane stank of goat and camel.
No problem; pack a sleeping bag liner! Actually, some companies that sell travel accessories sell liners to use on hotel beds.
These would be great for travelers stuck overnight in an airport during a snowstorm, or other travel backup. Even if you only got 5 hours of sleep, doing so in a quiet horizontal space would be a heck of a lot more restful than a night spent slumping in a plastic chair, and would still be less expensive than a hotel room.
Hell, I could just sinki into one.
I dated a German germaphobe once. She woulda said something like that about the hygiene too. Me? I woulda slept like an innocent man.
Okay.
Just remember: Abu Dhabi Dew!
But all the pods face toward Mecca
Husband and I have a collection of sleeping bag liners: silk, cotton, fleece, microfiber. We use them camping, traveling, on the sailboat and as a solution to the “man who steals the covers” issue.
Our pods are much more personally adaptable!
Thieves would rob snoozing people blind of their carry-on bags if these were ever installed in US airports.
The makings of a great movie. You wake up in the future, or in Alaska, or in the middle of a terrorist training camp. Or you wake up, and everyone else in the world is dead. So many plots to choose from.
