In Tunisia... The last organized Axis resistance is eliminated. Large scale surrenders, of Axis troops, begin.
From Berlin... Hitler approves Operation Citadel, the attack on the Kursk salient, despite expressing misgivings and news of Soviet defensive preparations.

MEDITERRANEAN SEA: U-380 rescued five German soldiers escaping from Tunisia in a small boat. She brought them to La Spezia May 16. (Dave Shirlaw)
NORTH AFRICA: Wholesale surrenders begin as the last Axis resistance ends in Tunisia.
The British 6th Armoured Division ends Axis chances of escape by cutting off the Cape Bon peninsula.
CANADA:
Ville-class steel tugs HMCS Lawrenceville, Adamsville, Beamsville, Marysville, Auburnville, Parksville, Otterville, Radville and Hodgeville ordered.
