Let's Move Cutting Core Curriculum. (Vanity)
Vanity

Posted on 05/10/2013 6:40:24 PM PDT by mnehring

As some of you know, my wife is a private piano voice and piano teacher however this year, she had the opportunity to work in one of the public schools here in town on a limited basis for an opportunity she couldn't refuse. She left the public school system a few years ago because of the politics within the school, no surprise. This, however, is one of those opportunities she couldn't turn down as she was working with 1-2nd grade and special needs students.

Enough background. One thing she has been privy to is the plans for the school for next fall. Basically, schools have been directed to increase PE programs as part of Michelle Obama's Let's Move program.

So next year, instead of Elementary and Middle School students having 2-4 non-core programs, they are to have 3 PE programs.

What is getting cut?

Music

Band

Art

Shop

and wait for it....

Computer Lab.

All of these programs are being cut to one class per week (versus two or three times per week alternating) and PE is being increased where each student gets at least two PE classes PER DAY.

TOPICS: Education
KEYWORDS: letsmove; michelleobama; publicschools; vanity
This is first grade through middle school this is affecting. Cognitive skills are taking a sideline to PE this fall.

The good news is my wife has her own private music studio so she is flexible and can help fill the gap for many but it is leaving out many students during those critical educational years.

Who knows why?

Union pensions sucking all money away from the children?

The school district trying to get in good graces with Michelle Obama “Move” program?

It usually comes down to money, unions and politics.

My wife taught French at a public school for three years before my son was born. This was during the No Child Left Behind campaign. It was unsustainable socialist crap and the unions ate it up. My wife couldn’t believe the liberalism and union patronage. When sports are the driver of education (LOL!) and something gets cut...music gets cut.

Playing a musical instrument increases IQ. Of course, you don’t want people to be smart if you just want yes-men.

There was a study that recently found that Michelle’s “Move It” program hasn’t changed anybody’s exercise patterns so she has to try to force it. Sort of like how Mohammad started out thinking people would all accept his religion voluntarily and when they didn’t he said they would have to accept it by the sword then.

Shop gets cut because it teaches how to build/do things yourself. Things like ammo clips for example. Or fix old and eco incorrect cars.

Has your wife considered private teaching? At least for us, it has been a blessing. She gives discounts to home-schoolers and has more student requests than she can handle. A lot of parents are trying to fill the gaps schools can’t do. Set up a classroom in your living room and start a few classes each day.

Mozart effect. It has been shown that music increases math skills.

Yet usually the artsy-fartsies are the handmaidens of communism.

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

#17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

AND...

#31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

One talks about making art formless and ugly to instil a sense of dispair if memory serves.

Most creative types do not reason well. They are wired to think in the abstract. Not all, but most.

You can have a smart drummer or a good drummer. Having a good and smart drummer is a rarity like no other ;)

Communist Pol Pot killed anyone with an education. All others were put in labor camps.

It’s ALL about the GRANT:

“The ASAP Acceleration Grants campaign is giving 1,000 schools across America everything they need to launch a new physical activity program: seed funding, a game plan to follow, and a support network of champions across the country embarking on the same path.

The application window for new schools closed May 1, 2013. Did your school apply? Stay tuned! This summer ASAP will be announcing recipients from all 50 states whose schools will be launching 100 Mile Club, BOKS, and CHALK/Just Move this fall.” - http://www.activeschoolsasap.org/acceleration-grants

Indeed:

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

#23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
