When 8-year-old Labrador mix Terfel started losing his eyesight, he was diagnosed with cataracts and began confining himself to his bed to avoid bumping into things. But then his owner, Judy Godfrey-Brown, let a stray cat into their North Wales home and something amazing happened. The cat, named Pwditat, approached Terfel and seemed to sense that he couldn't see. Using her paws, she coaxed him out of his basket and led him out into the garden. "Pwditat immediately seemed to know that Terfel is blind through some sort of sixth sense that animals have," said Anne Cragg, a friend who looked after the animals when Godfrey-Brown was in the hospital. "They're fantastic friends. They really love each other. They are glued to each other and even sleep together now," she said. Today, the unlikely pair is virtually inseparable and Pwditat serves as Terfel's seeing-eye cat, guiding the blind dog around the house and through the garden - and proving that dogs and cats really can be friends.

Is it wrong that this story brings a tear to the eyes of a big, strong, tough guy such as myself?
If so, so be it.

No, it gets me choked up too. My 13 year old dachshund is starting to have vision issues, but our 2 year old border collie mix does a good job helping her around the house. Our cats, on the other hand, couldn’t give a damn. They’d probably walk her right into a wall if they could.

Wrong movie. GB, not the oil drillers on an astroid.
The correct response was:
All right, all right! I get the point!

Our late and greatly missed Golden Retriever, Prior Lake Jake developed cataracts at about age three. Our vet said Jake (and us) were fortunate to be close to a dog opthamologist in nearby Edina, MN.
For $850, Jake had the cataract removed and a new lens put in over the eye. Jake wore a lamp shade for about a month to protect the surgery.
Jake left us at the young age of 8.

As much as we love our doxie, she’s getting around just fine and is otherwise as healthy as a dog half her age. I couldn’t justify spending that much money unless she was half her age with the same malady.

Very cute story, but they need to give the dog L-taurine. My cat had cataracts and someone said give him L-taurine. I did and they soon disappeared. Then later I had a dog who also had visible cataracts so I remembered the L-taurine remedy. His cataracts soon disappeared. Later the cat again developed cataracts so I gave him L-taurine once again and they disappeared. It probably would work for people too, but most people are bent on what doctors say and end up with surgery.
