If you watch the credits for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness you will notice that the film is dedicated to post-9/11 veterans. And the connection doesn't end there as Abrams cast four vets from the Mission Continues charity in the film.

Cute little thing they did there, given the movie is supposedly a metaphor for Bush & Iraq.

It should be a great movie. My family wants to go this weekend, but I think it is better to go the second weekend that it is out when most people saw it. Nothing worse than having a completely full theater and sometimes not even able to have my family of 6 to sit together. I hope everyone enjoys the movie!

I’ve heard that. A few of the FReepers here who’ve seen the movie agree with that. However, the vast majority of FReepers as well as conservatives elsewhere, who’ve seen the movie, love it.

My viewpoint of the movie, having seen it last night: Wait for it on the small screen. I swear they had to have cleaned those cameras a thousand times while shooting this film, from a number of inadvertent face presses into the cameras. They really are just that close.

And apparently JJ Abrams has been spending a bit of time watching Spanish novellas on television, as far too many scenes are exactly out of the novella playbook, including the watching of the reactions of others in the background while the hero(ine) of the scene stares off into space and forces tears, right into the camera.

From the opening scene, you are ordered to suspend all disbelief. And the nonsense doesn't stop there, but continues throughout the movie. Vast dark plans around conflict, secret installations and plots, all to start the inevitable war.

Trek fans will find lots in this movie, but like Muppet Show fans, the reincarnation of the Babies doesn't lead to the same enjoyment of adult humor mixed in with childish comedy. Too much of the time in this movie, it is a parody of Wrath of Khan, rather than an alternate history.

And the Star Trek movie curse is rebooted, this time it appears the even numbered movies will bomb. I had a hint that this was going to happen - rarely do I ever watch broadcast TV, but I've watched a couple hours in the last two weeks - every commercial break had a Star Trek commercial. Hollywood doesn't waste that kind of money unless they're trying to bleed whatever they can out of the opening weekend, expecting social media to tank it in the second.

But I swallowed my instinct, especially when reviews started pouring in, most sounding positive. It wasn't until after I watched the movie that I actually read those supposed positive reviews and saw how many shots were actually taken at the movie.

Is it worth watching? Yeah, it is. Is it worth paying $10 for the privilege? Not really. You'll likely gain by waiting for this to come out on blue-ray.

Note, I saw this on a normal screen, not 3D - thankfully. I'm sure if I saw it in 3D, I'd have every actor's nose print on my glasses.

I got more of a drone metaphor than a specific Bush-was-wrong vibe, but that’s just me.

I really doubt most folks will pick up on any political agenda unless they go looking for it. It’s a summertime blockbuster-type film...lots of CGI, explosions, fights, and guns.

I think it will be a big hit.

I saw it last night. It was an entertaining movie. My 3d glasses weren’t working very well, so I watched a lot of the film without them. I saw Ironman3 in 3d, which seemed to better. Anyhow, I did detect a political agenda in there — some anti-dronish theme and the “don’t get so deranged with anger that you lose you’re humanity theme”, but I doubt most people will pick up on it or really care even if they do.

I am an original ST:TOS fan (and I do mean FAN). I didn’t much care for the 2009 reboot (I missed the original actors too much), but something about this one really clicked for me. Except for the radiation chamber thing (no spoilers, I promise), I thought it was great fun. I especially enjoyed the actor portraying Bones (I could have sworn I was seeing Dee Kelly again). Come to think of it, there were times I felt I was seeing the WHOLE original cast again (exceptions: Scotty and Chekov). Good film!

I LIKED the movie, but I didn’t LOVE it!Zachary Quinto @Spock was not a well written character in this movie & JJ Abrams direction made him look very wooden. LOVED the Star Trek soundstage orchestra playing the Trek theme at the end!
