Bolstered by the hype generated for its spicy ketchup, Whataburger has decided to start bottling the stuff. The burger chain will partner with HEB stores to sell it this summer. They'll sell the regular ketchup and mustard as well, and they are introducing a new potato chip product called Whatafries.
The ketchup will come in 20-ounce bottles; the mustard will be in a 16-ounce bottle. According to Whataburger, its mustard is a "one-of-a-kind" recipe dating back to the 1950s.
They are dubbing Whatafries a potato chip version of the their French fries, and they are crowing about the fact that they're made from real potatoes. Those will be sold in 7.4-ounce bags.
In other condiment news, the spicy ketchup will graduate from its previous limited-edition status to become available permanently at every one of its 740-plus restaurants in its 10-state service area.
Whataburger has gotten a lot of mileage from its spicy ketchup. The restaurant chain first released the not-really-that-spicy? condiment in January 2012 for a limited time, which helped ramp up the furor. When it went away, customers did what they usually do these days: created a Facebook page. Whataburger reissued it in March 2013 — which apparently resuscitated the enthusiasm sufficiently to persuade them to add it to the regular lineup.
As for the mustard, is it really one-of-a-kind? I can think of lots of mustards that are distinctive, but the Whataburger mustard doesn't seem that special.

Maybe the ones in your area aren’t any good. I actually get mouth watering cravings for Whataburger from time to time. I always order the double meat, extra vegetables, extra jalapenos. I can’t get enough of it, which is why I’m fat.
The only time I ever got sick of Whataburger was back when I worked for them (it was my first job). I worked the night shift, and the manager liked me so much (I was practically a one man army running the place) I had free reign to make whatever I wanted in the back. So, basically, I had them everyday.
After I quit, I couldn’t even stand the smell of the place for months. However, I’ve gotten over it, since you can’t kick something that good forever. Just, like all things, in moderation.
It’s not the Jake any more. It’s Progressive Field. Sickens me.

I was so thrilled when they brought the spicy ketchup back and am delighted that they are selling it at H.E.B.

You’re edging close to blasphemy! God Himself loves Whataburger and ordained its creation. He probably just doesn’t want it leaving the promised land, since you guys are unworthy.
My daughter was raving about Five Guys Burgers. I tried it and hated it, and you can have it made your way, still unimpressed.
When she was pregnant she was telling me she could really go for an In-and-Out burger. She lives in Oregon and I’m still here in Californican for a little while longer. So I checked with FedEx, what’s the latest I can bring an item to be shipped next day. They said 1930 or 7:30pm for the rest of you.
I bought 2 double doubles less pickles, tomatoes, lettuce so it wouldn’t be a soggy mess. Came home, repackaged it and sent it off. Cost me @ $90.00.
She was thrilled!
Also, just found out you can order Schaller & Weber products direct from http://www.schallerweber.com/. Think I'm going to load up on the mustard, we go through it so fast and Morant's is often out of it.

By not getting a burger at a particular Whataburger a very long time ago. ;-)
How many of you remember, “Corpus Christi, That’s My Home Town” (see around ‘61)? Okay, maybe someone younger than that can remember “Corpus Christi Wind.” I watched the drunks drive to music at the old C.C. Speedway (the older, smaller track—not the Association dirt track that later opened.).
I was on the Island many times before there were any buildings on it (except the Pier in the Park entrance). I remember the first building on the beach: the one that nearly everyone had that evil wish for (_______ ______ Inn). I used Bob Hall Pier before it was shortened by the weather.
Went skiing at Lake Mathis very shortly before sitting through Hurricane Celia. Went surfing next to a couple of jetties just before a tropical storm (before things got choppy, and yes, where sharks were often seen). Rode riptides out and played in undertows. I drove under the gusher across Padre Island Dr. around...’73, I think (some kind of accident there, and the well was capped afterward). ;-)

Have had In N Out, they recently expanded into DFW. I’d take the Whataburger over it any day of the week.
Now Carl’s, we don’t have those here but I do remember the road trips we’d take to Cali to see family as a kid. I always through a fit because I wanted to eat at Carl’s Jr and can still remember that taste to this day. If I’m ever far enough West again to run into one I’ll kill the first person that tries to stop me from getting in the door.

There are a few Carls Jr here, but they are a shell of what they used to be.

A nice burger with cheese, BBQ sauce and Onion Rings stacked on top for a dollar.
Not a culinary masterpiece but mighty fine regular fare.
I have not eaten at a Hardees in 20 years.
That said, they do put some smoke on the meat.
I just helped make a mess of burgers the other day.
I said “Hey! Lets put some smoke on that meat”
Two hunks of red oak in the smoke box did it, and I stuffed a pile of redlinks up the smoke flue.
When I was a kid the family ate at Whataburger once a month. Dad would order four Sissy Burgers, cut in half (each kid and Mother got half a burger, Dad ate 1-1/2), and a gallon jug of root beer all for under a dollar.

I should have remembered what I was taught about best burger discussions.
Better to stay in safe territories such as the Civil War, Catholics/Mary and the WOD.
