Conservative, Liberal, Libertarian, Anarchist, Socialist - all these words have relevance to the beliefs held by those who ascribe to these labels. But what of the word "Progressive"?
I've often wondered about the relevance of this word. After all, on its face it seems to imply one is in favor of "Progress". But that seems silly, since its like saying one is in favor of Goodness, or Success, or Health - we are all in favor of these, although we may disagree on how to achieve those shared goals. So saying one is in favor of "Progress" doesn't really mean anything.
But then it dawned on me. While I believe a society based on liberty will be the best way to achieve many of these goals, Progressives, by contrast, believe that these are best achieved by a government which forces these things upon us. So now that explains the word completely: A Progressive is Pro-Aggressive. Progressives favor the use of government force, government aggressiveness, to bring about these desirable results.
It’s a dog whistle word for Commie.
The word Progressive has been co-opted by the communists years ago. Whenever I hear the word I automatically think “COMMIE!” Do that and you’ll never go wrong.
To people with a brain, progressive in the context of politics means regressive. To low information voters, progressive means free stuff.
Yes.
The only good Commie is a dead Commie.
Connect whatever dots you think are appropriate. LOL
Progressive does mean Progress. But, these are people who believe that man is chaotic and that there is no guiding force in the universe. The believe that every person, left on their own, will be selfish and will not struggle towards the common good. This is why Christ is so offensive to them. He is their competition (which is a hint to Progressivism’s true champion).
So, they believe in Progress, but it is a controlled and directed progress where everyone must be a part of the group mind, struggling together towards a utopia where all are in one place.
I make it a point to tell anyone using the term it is spelled r e g r e s s i v e
Like the word “gay,” the Left ruined the word “progressive.” A friend of mine was lobbying county government to build a new animal shelter. He brought the draft of a promotional flyer by my house for me to edit. The first thing I noticed was the word “progressive.” I drew a circle around it and explained to him the political context. He changed it to “proactive.”
What took you so long?
Replace most things with communist and you will find the agenda.
Pray for America to Wake Up

Almost my exact words.
Yes, they’ve ruined the word, and now seem to take some perverse pride in using that label. Hence my attempt to reframe its etymology and meaning to fit what they actually believe.
Gaiety, choice, progress - who could be against them?!
Ha! It’s also noteworthy that in a both a medical AND a political context, “progressive” is synonymous with “degenerative”!
After all, citizens are now engaged in a "battle of ideas and principles ."
With that said, then, if we are fighting for liberty, which is the complete antithesis of the 'counterfeit' ideas of tyranny by coercive government takeover of the lives, liberty, and property of individuals being undertaken by the so-called "progressives," then we must act like liberty-loving persons.
These are our fellow citizens who must be convinced--by our adherence to principle--that the policies and methods of this Administration and Congress violate their most basic rights as American citizens.
That means they need a quick lesson in the principles of liberty so well understood by America's Founders, but so censored out of our schools and public discourse in recent decades.
Those who will be effective in spreading the freedom message must have the ability to quickly and precisely pinpoint the motives of those who buy votes by promising "goodies," and then, just as precisely, relate those violations to the Founders' ideas-- the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the limited government structured by the Constitution.
Our most effective weapon is truth, and the ability to summarize and articulate the several principles upon which our liberty as a people was founded.
We must read, use the web (search quotations by Jefferson and others by topic), use those ideas and talk about them--our politicians in either Party don't seem to be able to do so.
Read Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny." Check out this web site. In that publication, there are easy-to-read, illustrated, one-page summaries of 25 principles, using the Founders' own powerful words. There is much, much more in its 292 pages, but these 25 ideas, if understood and articulated could make a huge difference today. Copy the pages most related to the current assault on liberty, and pass them out to friends, teachers, legislators, Tea Partiers.
The so-called "progressives" ("regressives") have no weapon that can defeat truth, once it is understood by ordinary citizens.
Don't advocate violating principles. That is counterproductive.
Just as Divine Providence was claimed by the Founders to have overseen their "experiment in liberty," so may today's efforts be consistent with "the Blessing of Liberty" they sought to protect.
“Progressive disease or progressive illness is a disease or physical ailment whose course in most cases is the worsening, growth, or spread of the disease. This may happen until death, serious debility, or organ failure occurs.”
Bump that.
Well thought out.
