Yup, 11 Mondays of furlough starting 8 July until the end of the fiscal. We had a briefing today from our GO (Major General, USA) and FY14 & 15 is not looking good. Reduction in force (RIF) looks probable for both the active and civilian Army force.
Myself - being associated , active duty (Navy), contractor or civilian with the military since I was 17, it is very depressing. I am the first to admit that there are areas of personnel waste to trim, but we are at the point of "gutting" our defense. IMOHO
This may be worse then the Carter years.
“Mission Accomplished” for Obama. He’s just making things ‘fair” for our enemies.
I can think of a whole lot of people who would be happy to get those Mondays.
furloughs are a sign that someone doesn’t have an objective or mission other than supporting federal workers.
In the private sector when resources are finite, decisions are made to limit the impacts to areas not seen as central to these objectives and missions.
Obama seemed to have plenty of money to fly the big 747 into Chicago for a DemocRAT fundraiser this evening.
I can afford it, but there are those that bust their @ss at lower pay scales that will be hurting.
Barry and his 'RATS need all the money they can steal for the 50 million (figure I heard today) new Americano voters they are going to import so they can stay in power forever.
My son (Air Force) went on a emergency deployment to the middle east. We were assuming that it was because of the Syria crisis. No - It was to support Obama’s visit to Jordan. Unbelievable amount of support USAF) for a visit!
When are they going to furlough food stamps?
How about disability?
The second Tuesday of next week.
Actually, its more likely that the person does a useful job, but in an area that Obama doesn't want work to be done -- like defense.
Foodstamps and welfare, however, will continue ungarnished til hell freezes over.
You give him too much credit, he isn’t that smart.
Meanwhile, lots more abled-bodied men and women getting on disabled list.
Obama is a disgrace.

Tell them to toughen up, Buttercup! Seriously. We are ALL FREE AGENTS! No one owes you a fecking THING in this world, and if you throw your lot in with any form of Government, you are totally taking your chances. (Retired Army, Fed & State worker - until I ‘sobered up’ in the mid-90’s and then worked for myself and/or family-owned businesses.)
I don’t care WHAT sector you work in; plan for the worst and hope for the best. No one OWES you jack, Jack! You are trading your skills for dollars each and every day.
Yes, it really IS that simple. :)
Got my notification today.
DOD is drifting in the wind with a rudderless ship of state to defend.
It's ALL political.
I give us a fifty/fifty chance of actually going on furlough, especially since the notification was more a proposal.
OTOH, it would provide yet another distraction from Benghazi!
This is not new. Everyone is paying now. Private sector jobs too. I now work in a Doctors Surgical Center and we have been reduced to 4 days a week. When I was Active Duty we went through many RIFFS during the Clinton era. I have come to realize that the Govt only wants defense when they are threatened, military force will therefore ebb and flo in numbers to meet that goal. Our economy sucks and anybody who doesn’t think so has their head in the sand. So what the Dow is at record highs!! How many jobs does a higher stock market create?? None. Housing is another canard. Corporations buying up houses. Mortgage applications from private buyers are at almost a standstill. This don’t help the common man. We have relied so much on foreign manufacturing that we are effectively neutered. The only thing we have going for us is Oil and the govt wants to shut that down.
I did too!!! Yeah...3 day weekends all through the summer. lol. JK. I mean it is true but necessarily great news.
I left a job that made me miserable after many years. Setting up my own business now.
There is life after the gray flannel suit-life. Money’s been a little tight, but life is good again.
No one ever put on their tombstone: “I Wish I’d Spent More Time At The Office.”
Hang in there Patriot CJC.
I know more than 22 days triggers a RIF. Is that in one fiscal year or can it be triggered for 23 days within a 12 month period?
