For thousands of years, coffee has been one of the two or three most popular beverages on earth. But its only recently that scientists are figuring out that the drink has notable health benefits. In one large-scale epidemiological study from last year, researchers primarily at the National Cancer Institute parsed health information from more than 400,000 volunteers, ages 50 to 71, who were free of major diseases at the studys start in 1995. By 2008, more than 50,000 of the participants had died. But men who reported drinking two or three cups of coffee a day were 10 percent less likely to have died than those who didnt drink coffee, while women drinking the same amount had 13 percent less risk of dying during the study. Its not clear exactly what coffee had to do with their longevity, but the correlation is striking.
Other recent studies have linked moderate coffee drinking the equivalent of three or four 5-ounce cups of coffee a day or a single venti-size Starbucks with more specific advantages: a reduction in the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, basal cell carcinoma (the most common skin cancer), prostate cancer, oral cancer and breast cancer recurrence.

Wait wait wait wait wait...
Just a week or so ago we got a “study” out of the UK that stated that coffee drinkers are XX% more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than non-coffee drinkers. Now this?
I wish, I truly and honestly wish and pray to God that at some point in the future, hopefully while I still draw breath, the “academic” communities of the world, especially those at the center of the health sciences and biological studies will get their shit straight and report honest, factual results instead of the cross-sectional long-term longitudinal epidemiological horseshit we get about every other month now.
What you said.
Our coffee is better than their coffee.
Drink nothing that was not widely available 1000 years ago.
Is that so touch to believe. Can’t some things have elements that are good for you and bad for you?
So I can’t drink uncontaminated water?
Wow! Footrests and coffee...good on 'em
Our coffee is a WHOLE lot better than their coffee in the UK. That crap can turn you inside out!
I’m sick of correlations being sold as causes. Most of these “studies” are great for the womens’ magazines, but have no scientific value.
“That crap can turn you inside out!”
So that’s what happened...Thanks! :)
It might be completely made up.
Ditto that.
‘Bonnie buys the shit.....I like to taste it when I drink it, so I buy the good stuff..’
Back in college, students who couldn’t think usually produced three-inch stacks of SPSS printouts as their papers :).
They also ban washing any coffee decanter... ever. The crustier their coffee... the better they like it. I never ate anything other than Fish and Chips in England... that tasted like anything other than gravy soaked cardboard.
LLS
Here we go folks, Soon that morning cup of coffee will be seen as “100 times worse for you than smoking boogita boogita” hhaha
Coffee drinkers time to join the smokers outside.
Fish and Chips and “Pub Grub” were my staples. A Ploughman’s lunch or some kind of pot pie were not bad. Other than that there are lots of ethnic restaurants that offer refuge from English food stuff. They could even make a steak taste bland. Can’t beat Cadbury’s Chocolate though.
“Drink nothing that was not widely available 1000 years ago.”
So clean water is out.
