New app would let you snitch on illegal parkers, get cut of fine

WINNIPEG - Some entrepreneurial Winnipeggers are set to unleash an army of bounty hunters keen on nabbing people who park in disabled parking spots without a permit or in front of a fire hydrant.

All that would be needed is a smartphone and the "spotsquad" app.

Co-founder Chris Johnson says he and his partners haven't yet signed any agreements to give informants a percentage of any ticket fines, but he adds that some private parking lot operators are interested.

He says while many people say they would never snitch on a fellow driver, he expects they would privately jump at the chance to make a couple of bucks while cracking down on inconsiderate parkers.

Why are we paying the police, if someone else is going to do their job if this becomes the standard?

If only Orwell were alive to see his greatest work play out in real life...he’s likely shoot himself for giving libs the handbook to work from.

Strange how nations fought against and seemingly defeated the NAZI’s only to later adopt their policies.

The free market of Amazon seems to have an opinion, in that regard:

Sales of Orwell's '1984' up over 6,000 percent after NSA news

Looking at how that car is leaning, I would guess their power steering pump is shot, too. If they can’t afford maintenance, then I’m pretty sure they can’t afford a ticket.

It’s an annoyance, not a danger. Good for a laugh not an aneurism. I wouldn’t report. Besides, I usually park waaaay at the end of to avoid door dings and such and there’s less places for a mugger to secret themselves.

“on nabbing people who park in disabled parking spots without a permit”

The problem, and it’s epidemic in the U.S. and apparently Canada as well, is not people parking without a permit in disabled parking spots - it is parking with invalid permits.

Not so much with the license plates, but it’s really difficult to tell if a visor handicapped permit is valid or not. People steal them...

If were going to have such parking permits, and I think it’s a good thing, then they should not be misused by some lazy S.O.B. that thinks they are more important than anyone else.

People who misuse these things are committing a crime and should be reported just like any other crime you see committed.

On the radio here there are ads encouraging people to snitch on employers re software piracy. There is the promise of rewards.

Feeling more and more like a gulag.

Meanwhile, you can report illegal aliens and you’ll be lucky if you even get a call back from INS.
