It’s about time to highlight a Betty Grable movie. After all, isn’t she the official pin-up girl of World War II?

Never saw that film, but I heard the Lux Radio Theater adaptation a few years back. When I first got onto the Internet in 93-ish, I was constantly scouring the newsgroups for OTR: old-time radio shows, after one of those discount store chains starting selling random cassettes.

First off being a child of NYC since the 1950’s theres lots in there brings a smile to my face. Within i notice the lone civil war vet story which is pretty amazing.

I noticed there's an article about the strike against the recording companies led by musicians union boss James C. Petrillo. Since August, 1942, he has forbidden instrumentalists from recording music. Record companies can only issue records featuring instrumentalists only if they are recordings of live performances. Otherwise, they cannot use instruments.

In the face of the strike, the record companies have come up with some unique--sounding recordings. Here are some examples:
