Miss Utah Falls Apart While Answering An Easy Question About Women Earning Less Than Men

Miss Utah Marissa Powell, who looked stunning in a white strapless evening gown at the Miss USA pageant, bombed her final onstage question last night at the Planet Hollywood Casino & Resort in Las Vegas. "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star/Miss USA judge NeNe Leakes asked Powell, who was named the most photogenic at the pageant, to answer the following question:

"A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?"

This is a great question, and something you'd expect a Miss USA candidate to be well-prepared for. It's part of a much larger discussion that has been going on for a long time now and it's a great opportunity for a Miss USA contestant to totally nail it.

Here's Miss Utah's incoherent response, though:

"I think that we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to...figure out how to create jobs right now, that is the greatest problem. I think especially the men are, um, seen as the leaders of this so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem.

You can really see the heartbreak and disappointment in Powell's eyes in the video posted below. She clearly knew she messed it up.

Headline fail.
She didn’t “fall apart” in the slightest. The question had no context, was based on a low information voter premise, and was basically the question of an ignoramus. She did what she could with it. I saw no “falling apart” at all.

(yawn)

Miss Utah sure is a beautiful woman.

Not exactly an easy question unless you go for the simplistic politically correct response.

Well, she does not looks as much like Ava in that picture but she sure did on the original post.
Since I do not watch these contests (or little else on TV) I did not see her other than the original pic.

She is beautiful.

“Gaff” is a big hook on a stick used to snag fish aboard a trawler

“Gaffe” is the word you are looking for. When you look up Gaffe in the dictionary, Joe Biden’s picture is found there.

Thank you. I am one of those who still type with 3-4 fingers and backspace more than I key.

Having lived in Utah for almost 15 years I can attest that some of the most stunningly gorgeous women in the world live in that state. I’d put them up against the California and Southeastern US ladies any day.

"Trawler" is a boat that drags a huge net through the water, hoists the bag end on board with a power block and dumps the load of fish on deck, thereby a gaff is not used.
I believe you are looking for the word "Troller" where salmon or tuna are caught on baited hooks or artificial lures, and usually brought aboard with a gaff hook.
As to my original misuse of the word, guilty as charged :>)
