Possible human remains have been found by FBI and NYPD organized crime investigators digging at the home of a former mobster who inspired Robert DeNiro's character in the movie "Goodfellas."

Law enforcement officials told NBC 4 New York Wednesday that the potential bones were found buried in the ground, along with other evidence now being sent for testing.

Jimmy Burke, the late Lucchese family crime associate, allegedly masterminded a nearly $6 million robbery at Kennedy Airport in 1978 -- one of the largest cash thefts in American history, known as the Lufthansa heist.

What’s with the FBI’s sudden fascination with long-dead mobsters?

Probably some bean counter is questioning why such vast amounts of manpower are being allocated to look for long dead "victims" of professional (as opposed to active and random serial) killers instead of investigating average Americans questioning BHO & Co.

Seriously. It's a great and lazy gig for the agents. Absolutely no responsibility for solving/protecting/investigating anything that is of immediate concern.

Yeah, some former mobster in Detroit is writing a book and supposedly knows where Hoffa’s remains are buried. He claims that Hoffa was hit over the head with a shovel and then buried alive.

Do I amuse you, like a clown?

That was one of the most blood chilling scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

The criminal Pesci’s character was based on was much more violent and insane, according to Henry Hill, and he wasn’t a small guy. He was massive and over six foot. They’re not so cute, close up.

Tommy DeVito: Hey, Henry, Henry, Henry, hurry up. My mother’s makin’ fried peppers and sausage for us.
[Jimmy and Tommy laugh while Henry coughs]
Jimmy Conway: Oh, hey, Henry, Henry! Here’s an arm!
Henry Hill: Very funny.
Jimmy Conway: Here’s a leg!
Tommy DeVito: Here’s a wing! [laughing] Hey, What do you like, the leg or the wing? Or you still prefer the hearts and lungs?
[Henry vomits]
Henry Hill: Oh, that’s so bad!
