Netflix has Stage Door Canteen available on DVD. We were a little disappointed in the movie. Partly because of the poor quality of the Netflix reproduction on DVD and partly because of the content. Both the sound and the picture were less than adequate. I suppose the story told was supposed to be secondary to the musical numbers performed by big-time singers, musicians and dancers, but the writers could have put a
little more effort into their work. Some of the acts most appreciated in the Homer household were the Count Basie and Benny Goodman bands and a young Yehudi Menuhin. As the review says, there are lots of cameos by various stars. The most noteworthy is a patriotic speech given by Katherine Hepburn at the finale.

I saw “Stage Door Canteen” in the theater. It’s a great film.
If you want to see a film that’s downright bizarre, watch “Mission to Moscow.”
I noticed Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” is still playing. In LA, it opened at the Carthay Circle. My father hitchhiked all the way from Loma Linda, about 80 miles away, just to see the film, and he said it was well worth the effort.

Don’t forget Gypsy Rose Lee. She pulls off a G-Rated routine that actually is kinda hot.
