Your heartwarming story of the day: Anthony Nicodemo, the head coach for the Saunders High School basketball team in Yonkers, started to think about coming out of the closet after Jason Collins announced that he was gay in April. Last month, the 35-year-old went to an LGBT sports conference where he heard Collins speak firsthand. It was then that, despite his apprehensions about the reaction of his players and the risk of losing his position, Nicodemo resolved to finally come out. At a team meeting yesterday, he told a group of past and present players that he was gay. The players "literally embraced him," reports Outsports.
They also embraced him, less literally, on Twitter:
I always find this odd as well. I think everyone has their odd little kinks and perversions. But a lot of gays seem to have an irresistible urge to announce themselves.
I don’t mean gay people who passively mention a same sex relation passively in natural conversation. There’s a few like that where I work. They didn’t announce themselves (of course, every knew anyway by the way they acted).
But the ones who make a big deal out of coming out... It’s like they just *need* to make an event out of it. It’s important that a big deal be made out of what they do with their privates.
It’s an extension of the Facebook culture I guess. People are obsessed with the idea that everyone should be engrossed with the minutia of their daily lives. News flash, peeps: you’re not that interesting!
