These Major Brands Actively Support Gay Marriage
Business Insider ^ | 06/27/2013 | Laura Stampler

In light of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and allow gay marriage to resume in California, some brands have decided to loudly show their support of marriage equality.

While Kenneth Cole was live tweeting the rulings, Orbitz celebrated with a marriage equality-themed flash sale. Goldman Sachs even tweeted a message that gay marriage would actually help build a stronger economy complete with a picture of a rainbow flag next to an American flag.

Even though brands risk extreme negative reactions from potential customers for messages about LGBT rights, that doesn't stop major corporations from flying their rainbow flags high.

1) After the decision marking DOMA unconstitutional was announced, Goldman Sachs tweeted its support of the ruling.

2) Orbitz announced a flash sale to celebrate the DOMA ruling and Prop 8 result that led to the legalization of gay marriage in California.

3) And Gap tweeted this not-so-subtle photo reacting to the ruling.

4) American Apparel had a similar reaction.

You’d be hard pressed to find companies opposed to it openly. There’s too much money to be made in advocating it.

I must be really backwards or old fashioned. I don’t do business with any of the companies in the article. Amazon is perhaps the only company I have done business with in the last year, but not since they supported an Internet sales tax. I am going to be in pretty bad shape clothing wise if Wrangler and the NRA start supporting gay marriage.

I can understand apparel companies supporting gays, seeing how the whole fashion industry is dominated by homosexual men.

Not so sure about that. Chick-Fil-A came out pretty well.

I am mostly on a computer from work ... on a MacBook Air at the moment. My home machine (desktop/tower) is a custom built by me. It has a Gigabtye (that’s a brand name) mother board, Intel processor, some no-name memory made in Taiwan, and Seagate drives. It is about 7 years old. I run FreeBSD on it.

True, although they did suffer a tremendous backlash and stood strong during it.

A lot of companies can do the opposite and receive very little criticism in response. It’s sad, but they got a lot of money to shove this down our throats.

Why I usually try to use foreign companies from Russia and elsewhere. No doubt some idiot will reply that I’m hurting American business. Boo hook. Their own fault
