I just read a Robert Downey Jr. biography written by Ben Falk. Downey didn't help with it, but it was still entertaining.
Downey supported Mel Gibson when Hollywood turned on him, and he has this quote from a 2008 NYTIMES article.
I have a really interesting political point of view, and its not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you cant go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You cant. I wouldnt wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics every since.
(Suffice it to say he is not one of the Hollywood types who weeps over innocents trapped behind bars.)

His cousin is a friend of mine & is completely liberal.
Not so surprising, sobriety does that to most people.
I have always been impressed that he has stayed clean and really seems to care about his family, for what it is worth.
If I am not mistaken he gave money to da-one last fall... Really? I am cynical as to if he truly is a conservative...
And this is why Donwney’s movies do so well. It doesn’t matter who he supports.
He shuts up and sings.
No he’s not. He gave money to Obama and attended a few Obama events.
He attended a $40,000 a plate Obama fundraiser at George Clooney’s house.
I Agree
Well, Hollywood “conservative” is somewhere along the lines of Massachusetts “conservative,” I’d imagine.
Also he’s probably the best actor around.
“Though I agree with CM on some things, and vehemently disagree on other things, here is a surprising interview with Robert Downey:...”
Thanks for the link!!!!
Wow, cool. Didn’t know he was a fan of Chuck. Good stuff.
Neither of the examples given ‘prove’ his politics, one way or the other. Consider this:
Success in Hollywood is not always about talent, but is often about who you know. Attending parties for Obama and giving money to Obama, may just be the price paid to maintain a certain level of visibility and to further relationships.
Better to be thought as one-of-the-gang then to stand up and be in the unemployment line.
Do you know what McConagey’s politics are these days?
I agree with you, actually. I provided that fact for its own sake, but there’s probably more to it than that. There’s no reason for me to doubt the statements he’s made about his wake-up call.
Your reasoning could be very closed to the truth.
There is a great deal of truth in that. Tolerant Hollywood is very unforgiving of Conservatives in its midst and gleefully blacklists them.
