Citing flight risk, judge sets bond for Porsche driver charged with 2 DUI manslaughter deaths
South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | July 4, 2013 | Erika Pesantes and David Fleshler

When she fatally struck two men in Fort Lauderdale with her mother's Porsche, Alyza Rachel Russell had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit, police say.

At a hearing Wednesday, a Broward judge set the 22-year-old's bond at $450,000, after a prosecutor said she had told a co-worker she planned to flee to Europe.

Russell, who works at a South Florida dental equipment repair company, holds dual U.S. and British citizenship. Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder called her a flight risk, saying she had reapplied for a passport with the British consulate, appeared to have paid for the application with her debit or credit card after the crash and talked about fleeing to Ireland.

That and using a debit/credit card. Of course, telling someone that you will leave the country got the authorities snooping.

I’ve always held that the United States of America should NEVER allow dual citizenship - ever. If the person wants to maintain former country citizenship, let them do it in that country.

The court also put her on house arrest, she is not to leave Broward Cty, enter any travel facility etc. In other words, she is eventually going to go to jail in the state of florida for felony DUI when the case gets to court.

The video of the court bail hearing is inciteful also. Poor little baby. As they say, don’t do the crime if you cannot do the time.

If you watch the video, you'll see that she was pretty upset when the judge was setting her new bond amounts.

Also, if you go to the Sun-Sentinel article, you'll be forced to watch an advertisement. There will be no volume control available on the video player during the time period in which the ad is playing.

Additionally, if you go to the master volume control for your computer and mute your audio from that control, you'll find that - as soon as you mouse over the Sun-Sentinel page in your browser - your audio magically un-mutes, and you're listening to the ad again at full volume.

My computer is running Win 7.

“If you watch the video, you’ll see that she was pretty upset when the judge was setting her new bond amounts.”

Probably first time in her life someone came down on her like a ton of bricks. Too bad. Prior sentencing says she will end up with 2-5 to serve.

Some newspaper websites allow a visible print option which avoid most or all video ads. I think the Chicago Tribune and Boston Herald are examples based on prior experiences. The article doesn’t print but it is displayed as such. Hope that makes sense.

That’s all?

Contrast that with what George Z. faces for NOT willfully committing manslaughter or any other crime.

Now all that being said, you know the breathalyzer is junk science, completely bogus, get a defense lawyer who specializes in DWI. Grab the vehicle and go over it with a fine tooth comb for defective brakes, steering, computer etc

This article gives more detail about the incident.

It seems that eyewitnesses observed that the car travelling at a high rate of speed, and that one of the victims was "wrapped around one of the wheels of the car" as the driver hit the gas and "looked like [she] was trying to get away."

Here is a solution:

  1. Right-click on your volume control (the little speaker icon on your taskbar). A "pop-up menu" will appear.
  2. Click the "Playback devices" item on this pop-up menu.(here "click" means "left-click").
  3. Find the playback device you're using (in my case it was "Headphones").
  4. Left-click on the device you're using. Another pop-up menu will appear; on this one, select "Properties." A "properties" dialog box for your audio playback device will appear.
  5. Select the "Advanced" tab in that dialog box.
  6. You will (or should) see a checkbox labeled Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device. Un-check this check box.

That solved the problem for me.

Well, she's a white girl who ran down two black guys, so she's toast, frankly. She'll be the Poster Child for White Privilege, and already this website:

http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-06-14/news/fl-two-pedestrians-fatal-folo-20130614_1_porsche-panamera-two-men-parking-lot

is creating a hagiography of the two victims (why they both have mugshots on file is tactfully not addressed.)
