The “one bomber every 55 minutes” came after MANY problems were ironed out over a period of 3 years.

I had the opportunity this past weekend to see a still
Flying B-24 and a B-17 and talked to some WW-II vets who shared their experiences with these planes. It is amazing to see the sophisticated technology in these nearly 70 year old planes.

Still to this day the most produced American military aircraft.

Side note: saw a B-17 flying this weekend over our soccer tournament. I think he was practicing bombing us. Very cool.

The Commemorative Airforce (formerly Confederate Airforce) takes their B17 and B24 on a tour every year that has them in town late May every year. I took my son up in the B17G a few years back - it was fantastic, do it if you have the chance. There probably won’t be too many more in years to come.
