Vanity question: BASE ID STICKERS removal because of terrorism targets?
self ^ | 7/23/13 | GailA

We are retired Military, have not been to base in past couple of weeks, the other day neighbor, retired Marine who still works civie @ the base in Millington, TN said ALL BASE ID STICKERS WERE TO BE REMOVED FROM YOUR WINDSHIELD.

Not personal stuff, just the BASE ID STICKERS.

We coasted up next to a CPO in uniform at the red light at Lowe's and got his attention, asked him if it was correct and he said it was. That BASE ID STICKERS were to be removed. No one can answer the question is it required of the retired as well as active duty and active Civie employees?

Any one with more intell?

This is an older style, newer one is much longer and is only decal stickers, not put on with nuts and bolts...goes on driver side windshield just above the hood line.

I am retired Army in PA and routinely use the Carlisle Barracks facilities. The base stopped issuing new stickers a year or so ago but has not mandated that existing stickers be removed. Sticker or not, everybody has to go through security and show an ID. The situation you describe may be related to a local policy.

It’s true. My wife will be happy and I will be glad to get that ugly sticker off my beautiful truck.

The USAF Base I work(and retired from) on(OFFUTT/ACC) has not had Base Stickers for over 10 years. I am now sure how the rest of the DoD operates. You have to show your CAC or DoD ID to be admitted to the base.

I’m surprised that anyone would be allowed to bolt their sticker like that. Security Forces at Travis would have had a massive cow if they saw that, while I was stationed there 2004-06.

So, they won? We have so little control over our borders that anyone displaying a sticker showing military affiliation is at risk? Or are they afraid that the display of those specific registration stickers will enable counterfeiting? Time to go to an innocuous bar coding scheme.

Presumption is a threat exists, to you and family. As well cost reduction by dropping said stickers , process etc .... And the fact that this is just going to SOP that all ID’s are checked versus waving in a vehicle.

Also precludes an IED being placed on a snickered vehicle and letting you unknowingly deliver it on the base.

More inconvenient , better security.

My opinion as a retired EOD troop....

It probably has more to do with 0bama wanting to eliminate anything which triggers national pride, even something as seemingly trivial as a sticker. He'd kill the American flag if he could (give him time). The Kommie King's mission is to snuff out national pride and patriotism. His cancellation of fleet week while taking a $100 million trip to Africa tells you the cancellation WASN'T about money.

0bama does NOTHING to evoke patriotism for America. NOTHING. All he does is foment bitterness for America.

It was costing our base over a million $ a year to manage the program. It really is unnecessary since those authorized to enter the base are people not cars.

This was announced a few months ago. They will no longer be issuing decals opting for just ID check and periodic physical inspection. I think the cost was the biggest factor given the fact they need to print the stickers, staff people to hand them out, and have someone manage the database and so on..

They tried it a few years ago and it didn’t work out so here we go again.
We figure it will be back when an 07 or their spouse gets towed from the reserved spots or can’t get a reserved spot because someone else parked in there.

Navy has eliminated the need for decals on July 1st 2013. Marine Corps still requires decals (at least here in San Diego - MCAS Miramar, Camp Pendleton, and Recruit Depot in Point Loma.

WOW! I read this and gotta ask you if you were reading my mind!

Except I never thought of calling him Kommie King. I have other names for him, but just me and my dog know them. FR would ban me...

I also believe NASA got out of the high-profile manned launch business because it put a spotlight on America as a super power. 0bama needed to kill that kind of thinking among Americans. There are numerous instances of 0bama going out of his way to avoid American tradition. When was the last time he gave a speech from the Oval Office as every other President has done? NEVER. He prefers standing in front of the yellow ‘banana Republic’ curtain, sometimes without our flag present.

I don’t recall much about stickers and cars from when I was in, but didn’t we used to just drive on to the base as long as we had a sticker?

If security is actually tight enough to check each driver and vehicle that comes on base now, then what purpose would the stickers serve?

Maybe someone finally got around to eliminating them.

Shouldn’t need stickers. They got a data base with your car’s license plate.

I am DoD navy, the USN just rescinded this requirement recently. They're relying on CaC or some other form of military ID is required to enter. never heard anything about being a potential terrorism target.
